Chapter 1562

"Watch your tone!" Mikael said at once.

Wilbur had been brought here by Pembroke, and surely that had to mean that he was powerful to some extent.

Esha was out of her mind for speaking to him like this as a mere forensic technician.

Yet she refused to yield. "What? Was I wrong? Are we supposed to let just about anyone into a crime scene and make such deluded statements on the case? What would you even need forensics for, then?"

"How dare you!" Mikael was furious but could not say much else.

Wilbur nodded at Pembroke, who said at once, "Esha, Mister Penn''s a member of the Department of Paranormal Research and Defense. He does have the right to be speaking on this."

"The Department of Paranormal Research and Defense? I''ve never even heard of them. Captain Wells, you''re being scammed here. It''s not a good look for you at all if this gets out," Esha said in disdain.

Pembroke finally lost it. "You might be a forensic specialist, Esha, but there''s so much you don''t understand because you just aren''t skilled enough to. Got it?"

Wilbur took out his license then, handing it to Esha.

Esha nced at the card. It said that Wilbur Penn was indeed Deacon of the fifth division of the Northeast Department of Paranormal Research and Defense, and also included a brief description of the power he held.

Esha read through everything, before handing the card back to Wilbur.

Pembroke sneered at her. "Do you understand now?"

"I do understand. I didn''t know there was such a department, and that it was so powerful too," Esha replied. "But could anyone exin to me why there are so many divisions and what it means to be a deacon? Also, can you tell me if Hemount City is under the control of this fifth division?"

Despite the fact that the Department of Paranormal Research and Defense was a powerful department, there had to be limits to the power they held at least geographically.

Pembroke flushed once more. What was wrong with thisdy?

So what if Wilbur was only in charge of one division? He was there to help.

Mikael piped up then. "He''s here to help us out, Esha. What are you doing?" "Sorry, sir. As government officials, we have strict rules to follow, and I don''t think he has the right to exercise his power here," Esha said stubbornly.

Pembroke and Mikael were speechless at her attitude.

Both of them were much more powerful than Esha was in terms of work, but her words madeplete sense as well.

Wilbur smiled. "Well, you can keep going since you don''t need me here. I was just trying to help out. You don''t have to be so prickly."

"I''m not being prickly. This is a matter of an abuse of power, and we need strict boundaries on the limits of power," said Esha.

Wilbur sighed, taking a step back. "You''re right, you''re right. Carry on, then. I won''t be in your way."

He came up to Pembroke with a smile. "Give me a lift back."

"I''m so sorry, Deacon Penn. Let me send you back to get some rest, I''ll be back to

deal with this girl," Pembroke said as he called for the car.

Wilbur smiled, getting into the car and leaving the scene.

Pembroke''s expression darkened after he was gone, entering a car as well.

He did not leave due to his duty, merely instructing the special forces agents to help maintain order.

Mikael shook his head helplessly, unable to do anything about Esha either.

Just then, however, a terrifying howl sounded from the distance.
