Chapter 522

"Hey, where are you going?" Letitia called out instinctively.

"To the auditorium, to hear the leadership speak." Yvonne tossed the words over her shoulder and followed them out of the ssroom.

As April led a few students through the hallway, she happened to spot the school''s Executive Vice President.

The Vice President was hosting officials from the Municipal Bureau.

April told the students to go on ahead to the auditorium while she approached the Vice President and greeted the officials.

One of the officials from the Municipal Bureau happened to be the one who had overseen Yvonne''s undercover mission and was soon to be transferred to a higher department. When they mentioned Yvonne, they couldn''t help but sigh with regret.

Such a young and brilliant female officer-what a loss.

"Mr. Lee. Mr. Turner." April walked up to them. After a brief greeting, she smiled casually and joked, "What are you two discussing? Don''t tell me it''s another state secret. Should I make myself scarce?"

"You and your jokes. We''re standing in a busy hallway. What kind of secrets could we possibly discuss here?" Mr. Lee said, then let out a long sigh. "We were just talking about Yvonne. Bruce raised a fine child. It''s such a shame.”

Mr. Lee then turned to Mr. Turner. "April was Yvonne''s advisor. Back when that girl dropped out for her mission, April, being a mentor who cherished her talent, came to see me countless times. She was giving me such a headache that I finally dropped a hint, telling her Yvonne was a dedicated officer."

"Mr. Lee, you hinted at that?" April looked puzzled, then pped her forehead in frustration. “Oh, I must have been too dense. I didn''t catch your hint at all. I just thought you were trying tofort me."

Mr. Lee waved his hand dismissively. "What''s past is past. Let''s not dwell on it. The anniversary celebration should be starting. Let''s head over."

Mr. Lee and April then escorted Mr. Turner toward the school auditorium.

Only after they were gone did

Yvonne step out from around the corner, her face still covered by a

    mask that concealed her expression.

Yvonne stood there for a moment before finally making her way to the auditorium.

By the time she entered, the celebration had already begun. Mr. Walker was on stage, delivering a grand, eloquent speech.

The auditorium was packed, and with no seat avable, Yvonne could only stand at the very back, watching Mr. Walker on the stage.

A man guilty of heinous crimes, lecturing police cadets on justice and righteousness. The irony was suffocating.

Mr. Walker''s speech ended to a round of thunderous apuse.

Yvonne''s hands, hanging by her sides, clenched into fists, her body trembling uncontrobly. It wasn''t until an arm gently wrapped around her waist, pulling her into a

half embrace, that she began to

    calm down.

Leaning against a broad chest, she inhaled a familiar, crisp scent, and the violent energy around her slowly subsided.

"What right does a man rotten to the core have to stand on the stage of a police academy? It''s pathetic," Yvonne sneered.

Bet shot a cold nce at Mr.

    tà

Walker, who was just stepping off the stage, before his gaze softened as he looked back at Yvonne. "What are you doing here? I''ve been trying to call you, but it went straight to voicemail. I was looking for you everywhere."

Yvonne instinctively rummaged through her bag and pulled out her phone. The screen was filled with missed calls, mostly from Bet.

"I don''t know how it got silenced,” she said, slipping the phone back into her bag.

"So careless," Bet said, affectionately tapping the tip of her nose. "Ready to go home?"
