In that moment, he felt like he had never truly understood Hannah.
He had always seen her as a capable professional who was just a fool for love, someone who had now simply hardened her heart to get a divorce.
But he had never considered that for all these years, Hannah had walked her path alone. Betrayed by her husband and without the support of her family, she was no simple, naive woman. It was only love that had made her lower her guard.
Now that the love was gone, her sharp intellect had returned. His Hannah was never amb to be trifled with; she was more cunning than anyone.
It was a survival mechanism.
Hannah set down her cup, a wry smile on her face. "Let him investigate. He''s the one so desperate to get to the bottom of this. I couldn''t care less, and he wouldn''t listen even if I tried to stop him.”
"When he''s finally battered and bruised and presents his findings, so what? Sandra isn''t my lover, or my family. What does her life or death have to do with me? Why should I hurt Quennel, who has been so good to me, for the sake of someone so insignificant?"
Samuel finally understoodpletely.
He was right. Sandra meant nothing to Hannah, but Quennel was different.
Even if Quennel had drugged Hannah three years ago, nothing had happened between them. In a way, he had inadvertently helped her fulfill her dream of marrying Lionel.
Their marriage may have been a disaster, but at least she had married the man she loved. That chapter could be considered closed.
In the three years since, Quennel had been incredibly helpful to Hannah. Aside from the drugging incident, he was a great person who always looked out for her.
So, even if he had killed Sandra, Hannah would probably just think Sandra deserved it and that Quennel had done her a favor.
Therefore, Lionel''s desperate attempts to prove Quennel was a kidnapper and an abuser would have no effect on Hannah.
From the very beginning, it had all been Lionel''s wishful thinking that uncovering the truth would make Hannah hate Quennel and turn away from him.
But even if Hannah did as he wished and came to despise Quennel, it wouldn''t change the fact that she was divorcing Lionel.
So, from start to finish, his efforts werepletely meaningless. Hannah had repeatedly told him she didnt care, but he had insisted of
suing it anyway. fo
"Hannah, what do you think will
happen when he finally proves it was
Quennot tells you, and
just say
you don''t care and still want a
divorce? Is he going to have another
meltdown and call you crazy?"
Samuel suddenly realized the terrifying possibility.
Hannah nodded. "Yes, that''s exactly the kind of person he is. He doesn''t even try to think things through, and he tunes me outpletely. He just does what he wants and then tries to force his way of thinking on me, demanding I act ording to his wishes."
