Hearing Hannah''s question, Samuel paused, seemingly confused by what she meant.
"Well, since there''s no proof of who kidnapped Sandra, shouldn''t we investigate? That way, we can find out the truth and know which of them is lying," Samuel said.
Hannah, noticing his confusion, smiled and rested her chin on her hands. “This is their mess, so they should be the ones to investigate it, not us. Honestly, I don''t really care about the truth of the matter. They''re the only ones who do."
Hannah''s words were a revtion for Samuel.
That''s right. The person who most desperately wanted the real culprit exposed was Lionel, not them.
Why should they waste their time, effort, and energy investigating something that had nothing to do with them?
If Lionel didn''t want to be framed, it was up to him to do everything in his power to find the truth.
Realizing this, he silently gave Hannah a thumbs-up. "I should''ve known you were a step ahead. Look at me, getting all eager to do their dirty work for them."
"Even if he does investigate, there''s no guarantee he''ll uncover the truth. For all we know, he really did kidnap her, and this has all been an act from the start."
Hannah said, "Frankly, I don''t care whether he investigates or finds evidence. Even if it really was Quennel who kidnapped her, so what? Am I supposed to get into a fight with Quennel over Sandra?"
"Who is Sandra to me? What does she have to do with me at all? I should be celebrating the fact that she''s been beaten half to death, not getting angry about it. Anyone who didn''t know better might think I have some special rtionship with Sandra, that I need to avenge her kidnapping."
Hannah''s words were another wake-up call for Samuel. It felt as if they had been letting Lionel lead them by the nose this whole time.
Samuel rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Wait, let me get this straight."
Hannah picked up her coffee and nodded, giving him time to process everything.
After five minutes, a look of horror spread across Samuel''s face. He turned to Hannah in disbelief.
"Hannah, from the very beginning, you never cared who kidnapped Sandra. You hate her, so even if the kidnapper had other motives, the end result is that Sandra got h hurt And as long as she''s hurt, you''re satisfied. Is that it?"
Hannah nodded. "Yes, exactly. You finally get it."
Samuel gasped and swallowed hard. "So, that means even if Quennel did kidnap Sandra, it doesn''t harm you in any way."
"And you''ve already moved past what happened with the drugging three years ago. So even if the real culprit behind everything is Quennel, you don''t care. In fact, you probably already suspected it was him you just didn''t say anything, right?"
Hannah simply nodded again, a faint smile ying on her lips.
"So you''re just ying with Lionel now, letting him run around investigating. And in the process, he''s bound to sh with Que creating more conflict. He might even get burned, maybe even get himself thrown out of the Rosenberg family for good?"
The more Samuel spoke, the more a chill ran down his spine. The blood in his veins felt like it was flowing backward, and the room seemed to drop in temperature. He looked at the gentle Hannah sitting before him.
