    At the reception desk, a nurse was half-asleep, her head resting on her folded arms.


    Elena rapped her knuckles on the counter. “Excuse me. Could you tell me which floor the director’s office is on?”


    The nurse stirred, shot Elena a grumpy look, and replied, “Who are you? Why do you need to see the director?”


    Elena stated her name.


    The nurse didn’t even bother to hide her contempt. “The director doesn’t have time for random people. Come backter.” Rolling over, she resumed her position on the table, muttering under her breath, “Gee, riffraff wanting to see the director…”


    It wasn’t the first time Elena had witnessed Gleyross Hospital staff show disdain toward ordinary people and peg them as rabble. Just days earlier, Katy—once a staff member of this very hospital—had tossed simr insults when she opted against offering treatment at the pce gates. Clearly, the arrogance wasn’t limited to one or two people. The staff at Gleyross Hospital seemed to believe they were above everyone else.


    Unfazed, Elena frowned and pped the investigation order approved by Tinsley onto the desk. “I’ll ask one more time. Where can I find your director?”


    The nurse clicked her tongue in irritation and jerked her head up, her face full of annoyance at being disturbed. “Are you deaf? I already told you—”


    The nurse froze mid-insult as her eyesnded on the document Elena had pped on the counter. “That’s an investigation order authorized by the Princess!” she blurted, suddenly wide awake and springing to her feet in shock. “Wait—you’re—”


    Elena didn’t give her a chance to finish. “Just tell me the floor.”


    Flustered now, the nurse dropped her arrogance and replied quickly, “Eighth floor.”


    Without another word, Elena strode toward the elevators.


    The second Elena disappeared, the nurse snatched up the phone and dialed the director in a panic. “Director Nguyen, there’s trouble! Someone named Elena is heading to your office with an investigation order authorized by the Princess!”


    Inside his office, Dewayne hung up the phone, his face darkening. Elena, huh? So she thought her reputation as the legendary Healer gave her a free pass to interfere with anything she pleased? Well, since she was on her way, he was more than ready to put her in her ce.


    When the elevator doors slid open on the eighth floor, Elena stepped out.

    Pushing open the door, she found Dewayne seated at his desk,pletely unfazed by her arrival.


    Dewayne greeted her with a polite smile. “Healer, what brings you here today?”


    Elena shot him a pointed look. While she had waited by the elevator earlier, the nurse must have tipped him off about her visit. This wily old fox knew exactly why she was here, yet pretended otherwise with remarkable ease.


    Elena decided to get straight to the point. “Director Nguyen, where is the body of the patient who died on the operating table two days ago?”


    Dewayne’s smile slipped for just a moment, his eyes narrowing as an edge crept into his expression. “Healer, what prompts you to ask about that?”


    Without hesitation, Elena produced an investigation order. Her voice was steady. “I’m here to determine the cause of death.”


    Dewayne tried a different tactic. “Healer, you’re new to Yoswye, so you may not be familiar with our hospital’s rules. At Gleyross Hospital, every patient signs a waiver before treatment. If something happens on the operating table, they take responsibility for the oue, and the hospital cannot be held ountable. Princess Tinsley and the Duke of ckwood are both aware of these policies.”
