?Chapter 1071:
“Get in the car. Don’t make me repeat myself.” Jeffry’s voice came again, cold as ice.
Evelyn flinched. Her hands curled into fists, nails pressing deep into her skin as tears stung her eyes. She bit down on her lower lip and slowly turned toward him. “Does it really have to be today? Can’t we wait just a little longer?” Her voice trembled with emotion, raw and pleading. Was he truly that eager to erase her from his life?
Jeffry didn’t answer. He simply pulled open the car door and looked at her with that same cold, unreadable face.
Evelyn grasped the message behind his silence. He wouldn’t wait. Today was the end, no matter what. She was a woman born into wealth and pride, someone
She’d never needed to plead for anything. But she had already swallowed her pride, pleading with him not to divorce her, only to be met with cold refusal.
Grinding her teeth together, she lowered herself into the passenger seat. Neither spoke a word during the drive. Before long, they pulled up at the courthouse.
Jeffry stepped out first without hesitation. Evelyn followed, her feet feeling heavier with every step.
The courthouse staff moved quickly, and in under fifteen minutes, the divorce decrees were finalized and handed to them.
As soon as they stepped out of the courthouse, Jeffry walked straight to the car without a second thought, already prepared to head back to work. Evelyn remained by the curb. Her voice cracked as she called after him, unwilling to let him disappear just like that. “Jeffry, you’ll regret this!”
He said nothing. The window rolled up, sealing her out, and the car vanished into traffic. To him, this marriage had always been a deal—one he now considered closed, and he wouldn’t regret ending it.
After leaving the courthouse, Evelyn headed straight to Ste’s ce. “Ste, can you believe it? Jeffry is so cold—so unbelievably cruel! All I did was bad-mouth Elena a bit, and he threw me away like I meant nothing! I love him so much. No one will ever love him the way I do. He has no idea what he’s just thrown away.”
Evelyn broke down in tears. The table between them was cluttered with crumpled tissues, each one soaked through.
Ste’s irritation grew with every word she absorbed, but out of politeness, she held her tongue and let Evelyn vent.

“I warned you ages ago,” Ste said without warmth in her tone. “A man who cheats and juggles other women isn’t worth your time. But you kept ming that woman for seducing him. Just let it go. The Harper family is full of terrible people anyway. Next time, go for a better man who’s actually worth your time.” Ste had never had a good opinion of the Harper family.
Tears clung to Evelyn’s face, and for a moment, she nearly forgot to keep up her act. She still loved Jeffry, no matter how much he’d hurt her. And hearing Ste trash him cut deeper than she wanted to admit. Swallowing her displeasure, she blinked away the emotion and leaned forward, her voice soft and pitiful. “Ste… Jeffry treated me like I was nothing. I can’t let this slide. Could you help me?”
Ste raised a brow, skeptical. “What exactly do you expect me to help you…”
Evelyn’s lips quivered, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Help me make him regret ever letting me go.”
Ste hardly cared about Evelyn, but the thought of seeing the Harper family suffer brought her real satisfaction.
“How do you n on making Jeffry regret divorcing you?” Ste asked. “The Harper Group is enormous—it won’t go down easily. Still, if I ask my father for help, well, it’s not out of the question.”
With practiced innocence, Evelyn passed the responsibility on. “I’ll let you handle everything.”
