?Chapter 1007:
“Call now.”
A string of numbers followed.
With Elena’s go-ahead, Davey straightened, cleared his throat, and said, “Who said I’m scared to call? Chill—I’m dialing already.”
He dialed the number she’d sent.
Momentster, a smooth, youthful voice came through the speaker. “Hello? What’s going on?”
The second the call connected, a sick twist churned in N’s gut.
Everyone stood frozen, eyes fixed on Davey, straining to catch every word. Davey could still see Elena sitting motionless in his peripheral vision. He had no clue who was actually on the other end of the line.
“Hello, Healer. This is Davey Sampson, Director at the Hospital. I’m currently at the Azure Dragon Unit Base. Someone here ims to be your protégé, so I’m calling to confirm—just making sure no one’s misusing your name.”
N’s fists clenched so hard that her nails broke skin, but she didn’t feel a thing.
Wesley leaned in. The true Healer in question sat beside him, her phone untouched and silent. He murmured, “Did you tell him to call?”
Elena’s lips curved into a sly, vulpine smile. “Yeah.”
Wesley arched a brow. That smile of hers—cunning and knowing—told him someone was about to get burned. “Who’s on the line?” he asked.
“No one.”
“No one?”
“I rerouted his call. Hacked his phone. The moment he dials, it connects to a voice simtor I programmed.” She’d been busy earlier, fingers flying over her screen. In under a few minutes, she’d cracked into Davey’s device andunched the program.
Wesley’s expression softened, affection flickering beneath his gaze, along with a touch of appreciation.
Davey had no clue the call hadn’t really gone through. He stood there, waiting for a response.
And he wasn’t alone. Every doctor at the Base Medical Center was silent, holding their breath as the seconds ticked by.

Panic thundered inside N like a war drum. Every fiber screamed in dread, terrified that the voice on the other end might say something that would unravel all her lies.
Since Davey hadn’t turned on the speaker, the onlookers had no idea what the other end of the line had said. The entire ce fell silent as everyone held their breath, listening intently to Davey’s answers.
A voice echoed sharply through the phone, cold and unyielding. “I have no protégés.”
Davey met the response with steadyposure, clearly expecting as much. “I see. That makes sense.”
Although he knew he wasn’t actually speaking to the Healer everyone at the base expected, Davey still conveyed unwavering respect upon hearing what came next from the line. “Yes. I hear you.”
Curiosity thickened in the air. All eyes were fixed on Davey, waiting for what he would say next.
Davey ended the call, satisfied. To him, the effort ofing all the way here had paid off—he now had the Healer’s contact.
A voice broke the tension, demanding an answer. “Well? What did the Healer say? Don’t keep us guessing.”
