    “I heard Fannie practically shunned public events. She’s making a special exception for Evelyn.”


    “Lucky for the Harper family to have Evelyn join them, but they don’t even seem to appreciate it…”


    Anyone who had ever thought Evelyn was punching above her weight by marrying into the Harper family quickly ate their words. After all, whoever could get Fannie to show up at their wedding was definitely no average Joe.


    Plus, Evelyn, being a top student from Harrington University, had probably rubbed shoulders with a ton of big shots overseas. The Harper family’s recent screw-up had only been fixed because the Morgan family offered their charging stations, proving that Evelyn marrying Jeffry was no stretch at all. They were a match made in heaven, a couple clearly meant to be.


    Some nosy person in the crowd couldn’t help but jump to Evelyn’s defense. “Jeffry, it’s not the bride’s fault! Your sister is the one who messed up!”


    “Exactly, Jeffry! Your sister trashed the wedding dress and won’t even admit she did anything wrong!”


    “Pissing off Fannie could seriously screw up the Harper family’s fashion business!”


    Jeffry’s face remained a stone-cold mask as he coolly asked, “Did any of you actually see Elena destroy the wedding dress with your own two eyes?”


    Evelyn batted her eyshes a little. “My room’s on the eleventh floor. I can’t see it happen myself, but the wedding dress was right next to Elena’s room, and she’s not exactly my biggest fan…”


    She trailed off, but everyone got the picture—Elena had done it on purpose.

    Jeffry’s eyes narrowed, and his voice was icy as he told the staff member, “Go get the security camera footage from the hallway.”


    The staff member looked troubled. “I’m really sorry, Mr. Harper. Being so close to the ocean, the air’s really humid, and our electronics mess up a lot. The security system broke down recently, and we haven’t had a chance to fix it yet.”


    This meant there was no footage.


    Evelyn couldn’t help but smirk. She’d been worried it wasn’t Elena, but now, without any proof, Elena was screwed, no matter how much she denied it. Whether or not Elena actually did it, she was going to take the fall.


    But Evelyn’s little moment of victory didn’tst long.


    Elena spoke up, her voice calm. “I can get the security footage back. Just give me the memory card.”


    Evelyn was floored. “He just said it’s broken! How are you going to fix it? Stop wasting everyone’s time.”


    Elena gave Evelyn a death stare, her voice sharp as a knife. “You’ll find out soon enough if I’m wasting time.”
