Chapter 1145

    ?Chapter 1145:

Shock gripped me. How could Antoni, missing for days, suddenly show up here with a squad at his back? A heavy weight settled in my chest. With Antoni’s unexpected arrival, the situation took another messy turn.

“Seems I got here just in time,” he said with a smirk. Antoni’s sharp eyes swept over everyone before zeroing in on me, a chilling grin curling on his lips.

My whole body went stiff. I tightened my hold on the short sword, every nerve screaming to stay ready. “Antoni, you finally crawl out of hiding. What are you after?” I snapped.

Antoni let out a harshugh, his stare dripping with hatred. “I came to snuff out your pathetic life!” he spat.

No sooner had the words left his mouth than Evie’s dagger caught the light, and she hurled herself at me without warning.

    Makenna’s POV:

Why on earth would Eviee at me like that? I didn’t realize something was wrong until she got close enough for me to catch the strange red flicker burning in her eyes. Before I could even blink, she moved with lightning speed, giving me no chance to dodge or defend myself.

I was stuck, rooted to the spot, watching in horror as the dagger she clutched came flying straight at me. A cold dread seized my heart, squeezing the life out of me.

“Evie!” I cried out, my voice rasping from fear, desperate to pull her back to her senses.

Her face contorted into something terrifying, twisted by a cruel madness, like she wasn’t in charge of her own body anymore.

Right when Evie’s dagger was about to rip into my chest, someone darted in out of nowhere. It was Rosaline! Without missing a beat, she shoved me aside, using her own body to block the blow meant for me.

The de sank deep into her chest, and blood poured out, soaking her clothes in an instant.

“Rosaline!” I gasped, my eyes going wide, my pupils shrinking in horror. A raw, broken scream tore its way from my lungs.

Evie looked just as stunned by what she’d done. The eerie red light slowly drained from her eyes, and she just stood there, frozen, her face twisting with pain and bewilderment. The dagger slipped from her fingers, ttering to the floor as she stumbled backward, mumbling, “What… what have I done?”

Before she could say another word, her knees buckled, and she crumpled onto the floor.

“Rosaline!” I cried out, scrambling to her side, my whole body shaking as I gathered her up in my arms. Blood kept pouring out of the gash in her chest, warm and sticky against my trembling hands.

Hot tears streamed down my cheeks, dripping onto her pale face as I sobbed, “Rosaline, please don’t do this to me. You can’t leave us behind…”

Rosaline struggled to raise her hand, her fingers twitching faintly, but she still managed to stroke my cheek with surprising gentleness. Her touch was like ice, pletely void of warmth.

“Don’t… don’t me Evie…” Her voice was so faint, it was almost a whisper. “Look after her… make sure she doesn’t suffer too much… I don’t me her…”

“Rosaline, don’t talk. I’ll fix this, I’ll save you!” I reached out in a panic, desperate to use my healing magic to stop the blood flowing from her wound.
