?Chapter 1144:
As Leonardo barked out the sharpmand, the doors mmed open with an earsplitting bang, and soldiers came flooding into the room from every corner. The atmosphere turned heavy and stifling, almost choking me. My heart hammered against my ribs, and my hands were already mmy with nervous sweat. But deep down, I understood this wasn’t the moment to let fear get the better of me.
I hurried over to Jett, the three princes, and Evie, pressing close as we formed a tight circle, ready to face whatever came at us. Right at my side, Jett stood firm, his gaze clear and cutting, radiating a steady sort of courage. He bent closer and murmured, “Makenna, stay sharp. Look out for yourself. Don’t overdo it.”
I gave a quick nod, clutching the short sword so hard my knuckles turned white. My gaze darted from foe to foe, never wavering for a second.
Out of nowhere, the three princes let out deep, savage snarls. Their bodies twisted and grew, fur ripping through their skin in a wild, fierce change. In the blink of an eye, they stood as towering wolves. Without wasting a second, Bryan charged ahead and mmed into a soldier, knocking him down with one powerful swipe of his w.
The other two princes weren’t far behind. They struck with deadly aim and lightning speed, giving their enemies no chance to even lift a finger.
Jett wasted no time. He yanked a small bottle of potion from inside his coat and flung it hard toward the oing soldiers. Instantly, a dense fog spilled across the floor, swallowing up everything in sight.
“Nice work!” I called out without thinking, a flicker of hope lighting up inside me.
But that smallfort didn’tst long. Leonardo, sharp as ever, had clearly seen thising. More soldiers came flooding in, their sheer numbers far beyond anything we had braced for. The flow of the battle turned messy and wild.
“Damn it, there are too many of them!” I growled through gritted teeth, each swing of my short sword feeling heavier than thest. My arms burned with fatigue, and every breath came harder.
Jett’s face darkened. His magic potion packed a punch, but he didn’t have much left to use.

“Awooo!”
Just when we were close to hitting a wall and barely hanging on, a sharp wolf howl split the air. I snapped my head up, wide-eyed, and spotted Alden and Pa storming into the hall with a troop of soldiers behind them.
“Makenna, we’re here!” Alden shouted, shifting into a giant wolf and hurling himself straight into the chaos.
The moment they arrived, the battle shifted. The enemy ranks broke apart, thrown into disarray.
“Retreat! Fall back now!” Leonardo barked, clearly rattled, but his order came toote.
Pa wasted no time. She led our forces in hemming Leonardo in, cutting off any escape.
I moved toward him at a steady pace, my short sword still dripping with blood, my stare cold enough to freeze. “Leonardo, now it’s our turn toy down the rules.”
Leonardo’s skin lost all color, but he struggled to keep a mask of calm as he fixed his gaze on me. “What do you want?” he asked stiffly.
I opened my mouth to answer, but a sudden uproar from afar cut me off. I whipped my head around and spotted Antoni leading a unit of wizard soldiers straight toward us.
