?Chapter 804:
Evelyn’s gaze then turned to me. “You’ve been pregnant before and have been favored by the princes, Makenna. At this banquet, you’ll surely have the chance to share a prince’s bed again. I’ll prepare the most potent herbal remedy for you, so you’ll carry royal blood within you and be highly favored.”
At her words, the other women turned to me, their eyes filled with jealousy and resentment.
As I watched them, a sense of foreboding began to creep up within me.
Makenna’s POV:
After training ended, I trudged back to my house, utterly drained and weighed down by a thousand conflicting thoughts.
Alice and Evie, ever observant, immediately picked up on my mood and assumed it was because I dreaded attending the banquet.
“If you’re really not feeling it, just call in sick and skip it. No big deal,” Alice offered, her hand gently resting on my shoulder as she tried tofort me.
I was on the verge of agreeing, ready to nod, when a sharp knock at the door cut through the air.
I pushed myself up from my chair and made my way to the door, only to be met with an unexpected sight. A doctor in a crisp white coat stood there, nked by a servant. A frown creased my brow in confusion as I asked, “Can I help you with something?”
The servant dipped his head slightly in respect, exining, “Miss Dunn, to ensure nothing goes awry at the Christmas banquet, every sex ve must undergo a routine health check.”
Alice’s face twisted in confusion, her brow furrowing. “Why make such a fuss? It’s just a banquet, right?”
The servant patiently continued, “His Majesty has learned that Miss Nixon’s herbal remedy, known for its fertility-boosting properties, is exceptionally effective. To make sure all the sex ves benefit from this remedy without any waste, he’s sent us to conduct health checks.”
?????????? ???????????????? ???????? ???? g????????ν?????????????
The servant’s words hit us like a ton of bricks.
I stood frozen, a sinking feeling in my stomach. Part of me wanted to refuse, but the serious expressions on both the servant’s and the doctor’s faces told me I didn’t have the luxury of saying no.
Reluctantly, I let the doctor inside.
After the check-up, Alice was pacing like a caged animal in the living room, muttering, “There’s definitely something shady going on with this banquet. It can’t just be about a party.”
Evie nced at me, her tone tentative. “Makenna, what do you think?”
I massaged my temples, the weight of everything pressing on me. “I’m not sure what Evelyn’s up to. But if I’m right, Evelyn works for Antoni. The real question is—what’s Antoni’s angle here?”
The three of us sat in silence, trapped in a mental gridlock, unsure of what twisted plot might be lurking just around the corner.
Finally, after what felt like forever, I sighed. “We’re in the dark for now. Let’s just wait and see how it ys out. With the king and all three princes attending the banquet, even if Antoni and Evelyn have something up their sleeves, would they really risk doing anything bold on such a big asion?”
Alice and Evie exchanged a knowing look. Though the unease was still there, they understood that, for now, we didn’t have a better n. They nodded in agreement.
Originally, Alice had nned to leave the pce a few days before Christmas. But, worried about me, she decided to stay a little longer.
