Chapter 770

    Chapter 770:

Feigning confusion, I asked, “Your Majesty, what wrong have I done?”

Leonardo’s fury left him gasping for breath. His voice thundered as he roared, “Do you not know the shame you’ve brought upon yourself? How dare you be so bold as to have an affair with another man! You’ve brought disgrace to the entire Lycan royal family!”

The usation reverberated through the hall, but I stood tall, my voice steady. “Your Majesty, any im must be backed by proof. If you use me of infidelity, I ask—what evidence supports this charge?”

His face darkened further, his anger zing unchecked. “Do I need evidence when the entire pce is abuzz with the rumors? How could they be untrue?”

Lifting my chin, I replied with calm defiance, “If rumors alone suffice to convict, then what purpose do thews and enforcers serve? Your Majesty, you are wise; surely, you wouldn’t condemn an innocent person without concrete proof.”

Leonardo was rendered speechless by my argument, his mouth opening as if to speak, yet no words came forth. Noticing his hesitation, I allowed myself a quiet sigh of relief, knowing I had managed to turn the situation in my favor, at least for now.

Before I could savor my small triumph, a mocking voice echoed through the hall. “Hmph, Makenna. If you’re so innocent, then why do these rumors exist at all?”

My eyes snapped toward the speaker—Antoni, seated to the king’s left.

He watched me with a sly smirk, his narrowed eyes gleaming with the cunning of a fox. It was clear he took satisfaction in the trap he had so carefullyid for me. Realization dawned like a storm cloud. Antoni had orchestrated this; he’d set this trap for me deliberately.

Yet, I couldn’t afford to falter. Not now.

Fixing my gaze on him, I retorted, “By your logic, Mr. Harrison, if I were to spread rumors using you of plotting treason, would that make you guilty of rebellion?”

    ?????????????? ?????? ?????????ν?????????????

His expression faltered, hisposure cracking. For a moment, he looked at me as though the breath had been stolen from his lungs.

I met his gaze with a triumphant smile and calmly pressed on, determined to solidify my advantage. “After all, if you’repletely innocent, then how could there be such rumors about you?”

Leonardo, perched at the head of the hall, frowned deeply. He was always vignt against treason, and my words seemed to strike a nerve. His eyes shifted instinctively to Antoni, his expression growing darker with suspicion.

Antoni’s mask of confidence seemed to crumble. Panic crept into his voice as he blurted, “Your Majesty, Makenna speaks nonsense! You mustn’t believe her lies.”

Leonardo waved him off impatiently and turned back to me, his gaze scrutinizing. “Makenna,” he demanded, “do you have proof to refute the allegations against you?”

Locking eyes with him, I replied boldly, “Your Majesty, do you have proof that I am guilty?”

A wicked smile tugged at Antoni’s lips. His next words dripped with smug satisfaction. “Oh, but I do. I have the evidence.”

    Makenna’s POV:

I gaped at Antoni, his self-assured demeanor chilling me to the core. A heavy unease settled in my chest like a stone.

Then, with a sharp p of his hands, Antoni shattered the silence of the hall. The echo hadn’t faded when steady footsteps approached from behind me.

Spinning around, I gasped. My heart plummeted as my eyesnded on the figure entering the hall—it was the doctor who had led the princes to the warehouse that day. That fateful night surged back to me. He had been there. He had seen it all.
