?Chapter 743:
I held the bowl, looking down at the familiar soup, briefly caught off guard.
The soup… It was unmistakably Evie’s special soup. I knew it because it was my favorite.
I looked again at the maid next to me, then nced back at the soup in my hands. A bold thought shed through my mind.
Could this young maid actually be Evie?
“Are you…” I began, my voice quivering with astonishment as I fixed my gaze on the maid, who seemed so unfamiliar.
But before I could finish my question, the maid quickly ced her hand over my mouth, her eyes wide with caution, signaling me to remain silent.
I was puzzled at first, but then it clicked, and I nodded quickly in understanding.
The maid then slowly removed her hand.
In a hushed tone, I urgently asked, “Evie? Is that really you? Why are
Makenna’s POV:
Evie lowered her head and whispered as she served the dishes, “I’ll tell you everything once we’re out of here.” Relief flooded through me at Evie’s words. She had just lit a beacon of hope for me in this dark time.
“Do you have a way for me to get out of here, Evie?” I asked, concern written clearly on my face. While I wanted to leave, I didn’t want to drag her into the mire.
Evie nodded. “The three princes will leave for a while after midnight. That’s our best chance to escape.”
Hope surged within me. New worries, however, emerged. Anxiously, I asked, “What about the guards at the door?”
Evie smiled as though she had anticipated my question. She took out a small vial from her pocket and ced it in my hand. “This is a sleep-inducing mist. If you sprinkle it on the guards’ faces, they’ll fall asleep for an hour immediately.”

My eyes widened in fascination as I stared at the vial in my hand. A feeling of excitement and anxiety flowed through me.
Evie, seeing how tense I was, gently took my hand in hers and said reassuringly, “Don’t be scared, Makenna. We’ll get out safely.” I nodded tearfully.
“The most important thing now is that you eat, Makenna. You’ll need all the energy you can get tonight,” Evie finished as shedled food onto my te.
I took a deep breath in an attempt to calm myself before focusing on eating.
Soon, I was done with the food on my te. Evie quietly tidied up the dishes and made to leave.
My gaze followed her longingly, not wanting her to leave.
Evie then stopped at the door, turned around, and gave me a meaningful nce.
I immediately understood the meaning behind her nce and gave her an understanding nod as I tightly gripped the vial she had given me.
“Don’t be afraid, Makenna. You will get out of here,” I whispered to myself in a bid to encourage myself. Soon, night fell, and Iy tossing and turning on the bed, waiting for midnight to arrive.
The clock soon struck twelve, and my eyes snapped open.
I nced around, my heart racing.
“Chirp! Chirp!”
A sharp bird call pierced the silence outside the door. My eyes lit up as I recognized the sound as Evie’s signal that the princes had left.
I took a deep breath and quietly got up. Clutching the vial of sleep-inducing mist, I silently tiptoed to the door. I came face to face with two guards as soon as I opened it.
