?Chapter 744:
“It’ste, miss. You should go get some rest,” one of the guards politely said.
I said nothing. Instead, I lightly turned the vial in my hand and sprinkled the mist on the guards’ faces.
A faint mist spread, and the guards’ eyes immediately zed over. Their bodies swayed for a few seconds before they copsed to the floor.
This whole scene amazed me at how effective the mist had been. Where did Evie get such a thing?
However, this wasn’t the time or ce to ponder that, so I quickly moved past the guards and silently descended the stairs.
I ran into a maid when I reached the living room on the first floor.
The maid was shocked to see me and was about to raise an rm when I swiftly sprinkled the mist on her face. Her eyes immediately zed over, and soon she fell to the floor, asleep.
I put six guards and two maids to sleep before finally reaching the vi’s main gate.
Makenna’s POV:
Outside the vi, darkness enveloped everything. Standing behind the tightly shut gates, I peered through the gaps in the iron bars into the quiet night, breathing deeply.
If it weren’t for Evie, I probably would have spent the rest of my life imprisoned here, with no hope of ever seeing the light of day.
Following Evie’s instructions, I headed for the rendezvous point she had mentioned.
I treaded carefully on the uneven cobblestone path beneath my feet, mindful not to make even the slightest noise to avoid attracting the guards.
After a few minutes of walking, I came upon a towering tree.
???????? ???????? ?????????????? at ?????????ν??????﹒?????
My heart leapt with hope upon seeing it. This was the meeting point Evie had spoken of.
Sure enough, as I approached, two figures became visible.
One was petite, and I could tell it was Evie. Beside her stood a tall, unfamiliar man. His features were stern, and he exuded an aura that sent shivers down my spine. I immediately turned to Evie, suspicion in my eyes. In a whisper, I asked, “Who is he, Evie?”
Evie refused to meet my eyes. “He is…”
However, before she could finish speaking, the man said, “You used to call me Martin, but now you can call me Jett.”
My eyes widened in disbelief. “Martin? Why do you look different again? Were you the mysterious wizard who saved me then? Are you also Jett Armstrong, under Josie’smand?”
“Yes, that’s me,” Jett said with a faint smile. “As for my appearance, I merely changed my looks. What you saw in the warehouse was my true form.”
“Then you…”
Jett interrupted me before I could ask my question. “This is not the time for questions. We need to leave. If the guards find us, escaping will be much harder.”
I remained suspicious, afraid that he might have ulterior motives.
Evie noticed my hesitation and gently tugged at my sleeve, saying, “Trust me, Makenna. Jett means well. Go with him, andter we’ll talk about everything.”
I trusted Evie. It was Jett I didn’t trust.
Jett saw this and said, “Do you remember that I promised to tell you everything about your mother?”
