?Chapter 1065:
Ellie responded, “If you’re hesitating, maybe you shouldn’t ask.”
June was caught off guard by this reply, finding it frustrating to hold back her inquiry.
Ellie chuckled and said, “Go ahead and ask!”
June proceeded with caution. “I sense you still care about Mr. Thorpe, so why did you move out? At first, I thought maybe he had upset you, and you were considering a divorce.”
Ellieughed and turned her gaze toward June. “He did upset me, but it’s not enough for a divorce. I do care about him, but divorce is still an option.”
June was left feeling quite puzzled. What kind of logic was that? Was this a riddle?
Ellie teased, “June, you don’t have a boyfriend, do you?”
June muttered, “My work keeps me busy enough. I don’t want a boyfriend.”
“Then I’ll speak to Glenn about not overworking his staff so you have time for dating,” Ellie said.
“Ma’am, forget it! Dating would just cut into my downtime!” June protested.
Ellieughed. “When you find someone you love, you might understand.” Since June was Glenn’s trusted aide and known for her discretion, Ellie feltfortable sharing. “Kaiden would face ridicule if his wife were blind.”
June was puzzled. “But you’re Mr. Thorpe’s legitimate wife and a member of the Lambert family. Who would dare mock you? Mr. Lambert would make them regret it!”
Ellie suddenly realized why June didn’t have a boyfriend. June, a naive girl, was unaware of the prejudices in society.
“People might not say anything directly to my face, but they’ll gossip behind my back. I don’t want Kaiden to be disrespected, even in private,” Ellie exined.
She was no longer feeling sleepy and wanted to sit up. June immediately moved to help her.
May was better at handling tough situations, while June excelled at providing care.
Ellie sighed. “I don’t care much about what people say about me, but…”
“But you can’t ignore them talking about someone you care about, right?” June said. “I heard that even though you ignored people who spoke badly about you, when they said something against Miss Curtis, you ended up confronting them.”
Every tale finds a home at g?lnσν???s
Ellie was taken aback. “Even you know about that?”
“Mr. Lambert wanted to get to know you better without prying into your personal life and risking angering you, so he had us gather stories about you during our free time. We heard that you and Miss Curtis often get into fights and that you can even handle five people at once!”
June concluded with a thumbs-up but then remembered Ellie couldn’t see it, so she quickly added, “You’re incredible!” Ellie was left speechless.
“I don’t get into fights often,” she thought to herself.
“But I believe Mr. Thorpe wouldn’t care about your blindness. He really cares about you,” June told Ellie.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have worked as a cook just to be close to Ellie.
“Really?” Ellie asked, smiling but with eyes that revealed more sadness than warmth. “But I do mind.”
Having a blind wife would be a burden for him. He took her to work with him, set aside many tasks to be with her, and shortened his work hours each night to read to her.
