    May began to introduce the evening’s dishes, picking up a knife and fork to serve Ellie. Kaiden walked over with another set of knife and fork, motioning for May to move aside. He intended to serve Ellie’s meal himself.


    May hesitated for a moment.


    “Fine, that’s how it’s going to be, if you insist!” Ellie thought.


    Ellie wasn’t very hungry. She ate just half a bowl of soup and a little roasted chicken. It wasn’t much food at all.


    Kaiden put a piece of steamed ribs on her te and then gave May a look, signaling her to say something. Ellie thought it was May serving her, so Kaiden stayed silent to avoid giving anything away.


    May said, “Mrs. Thorpe, these ribs look delicious. Would you like to try some?” Ellie figured it was their first day working for her and didn’t want to seem ungrateful, so she forced herself to eat.


    Kaiden then added an egg tart to her te and exchanged another nce with May.


    May, with a neutral expression, said softly, “Mrs. Thorpe, I heard you have a sweet tooth. Would you like to try the egg tart?”


    After eating the egg tart, Ellie couldn’t manage another bite. Compared to her usual appetite, this was barely half what she’d normally eat.


    Kaiden frowned and asked Ellie, “Is it not to your liking?”


    Ellie was briefly taken aback before realizing he was talking to her. Didn’t this cook need to call her ‘Mrs. Thorpe’?


    “I just don’t have an appetite right now,” Ellie said.


    “Let me know if you get hungryter,” he responded.


    Ellie hesitated for a moment. “Alright.”


    This cook was rather presumptuous.


    May and June observed that once Ellie went back to her room, Kaiden’s attitude shiftedpletely. He became distant and started working on hisptop. He seemed like apletely different person.

    They were bursting with curiosity, trying to figure out what had happened between Mr. and Mrs. Thorpe. He had even gone so far as to change his voice and walking style, pretending to be a cook just to be near his wife!


    What was even more astounding was that Glenn had given the green light for all this!


    “Mr. Thorpe, shouldn’t you be a bit more gentle when talking to your wife? You don’te off like a regr cook,” June suggested, recalling his behavior from earlier. Kaiden was confused.


    How was he not being gentle?


    With a mountain of work ahead, Kaiden worked well into the night. He heard some faint noises, and his reflexes kicked in. He arrived at Ellie’s bedroom door at the same time as May, who was on night duty.


    “Mr. Thorpe, is it really appropriate for you to go in at this hour?” May reminded him gently.


    Kaiden’s look was stern. “She’s my wife.”


    May replied without changing her expression, “She doesn’t know who you are right now.”


    Kaiden understood her point. He stepped back, looking displeased.


    May knocked on the door and only went in after hearing a response from inside. Ellie just needed to use the bathroom, with May helping her.
