?Chapter 1057:
Kaiden’s reflexes were quicker than his thoughts. He reached out to help Ellie.
The moment his hand touched her waist, she pushed it away.
Both of their hands remained frozen for a moment.
The air between them felt tense and ufortable.
“Where are May and June?” Ellie asked, breaking the silence.
May and June were the code names for the two female bodyguards, and Ellie didn’t know their real names.
Kaiden nced at the two women standing outside the bedroom door, lowered his voice so that Ellie couldn’t recognize him, and said, “I don’t know.”
Both May and June were taken aback.
They were at a loss for words and almost wanted to rush inside. Couldn’t Kaiden at least lie more convincingly?
It seemed like he was making it look as though they were cking off!
Ellie got out of bed and kept her distance from the cook.
She exined, “You… Sorry, I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m married. Hope you understand.”
Kaiden couldn’t help but smile, especially at the mention of “married.”
“I understand.”
Kaiden was almost entranced as he stared at Ellie’s face.
His intense gaze made Ellie ufortable, and her expression turned frosty.
“I don’t think you get it!”
If he truly understood, would he still be looking at her that way?
Ellie’s scolding caught Kaiden off guard for a moment, but then he managed a slight smile.
He said, “Sorry if I upset you, but you remind me a lot of someone very dear to me.”

Ellie frowned even more deeply, making Kaiden feel as though he might be reced at any time. He quickly interjected, “But you two are of different genders.” Ellie was momentarily stunned before she grasped his meaning. She was taken aback. “You…”
“Can you please not dismiss me? I really need this job,” Kaiden pleaded. He realized that once he epted his new position, lying became much easier. Kaiden grabbed a cane from the cab, holding one end and extending the jeweled part towards Ellie’s hand. “I won’t touch you. You hold the cane, and I’ll guide you out.”
Ellie pondered briefly. “Alright.” Since the cook preferred men, she figured there was no reason for her to be wary, right? Ellie questioned why she hadn’t felt any difort when she touched the cook’s hand earlier.
May and June, who were watching the scene, exchanged bewildered looks. They were surprised that Kaiden would hint at being attracted to men just to keep his job in front of his wife. That strategy… was quite unexpected.
Kaiden wasn’t much of a cook. Ellie had dozed off for over three hours, and during that time, he only managed to whip up a decent bowl of soup. The rest of the meal came from Moon Manor.
May and June acted as if they had juste back. One imed she had been at the property management office, while the other said she had fetched some items Ellie had bought earlier. Ellie epted their exnations without any questions.
