?Chapter 1000:
Bang!
Without hesitation, Baylee shut the door firmly.
Witnessing this, the secretary was at a loss for words. Girlfriend… No, Marvin’s ex-girlfriend was furious!
“Mr. Hill, we…”
As the secretary approached Marvin, she was halted by his icy stare. When Marvin was sober, he appeared aloof but had a warm exterior. However, in his drunken state, he was entirely cold and intimidating.
“Mr. Hill, I won’te near you! I won’t touch you!” the secretary tried to calm him in a soft voice. “Miss Curtis has shut the door. Let’s visit her tomorrow, okay?”
Though Marvin remained silent, his cold stare told her to leave. She made her way to a secure spot and phoned Marcelo for guidance. Marcelo advised, “You can go home and rest. No one can convince Mr. Hill to leave.”
Even when Marvin was sober, he was stubborn. Now, in his drunken state, their attempts at persuasion were futile. There was no concern for his safety. Marvin had faced incidents before and was now discreetly protected by bodyguards at all times.
When the secretary returned to check on Marvin, she saw him sitting on the floor by Baylee’s door, one leg propped against the wall. His pose made him look even more disheveled.
After heading downstairs, she called Marcelo and asked, “Marcelo, am I going to get fired?”
Marcelo reassured her, “Just forget about tonight, and you’ll be fine.” A good employee should erase their boss’s embarrassing moments from memory.
Baylee went back to bed but found she couldn’t sleep. She wasn’t thinking about Marvin; she just couldn’t sleep. She tossed and turned in bed for hours until dawn finally arrived.
Baylee rose, changed clothes, and prepared for her morning run. As she stepped outside, she nearly tripped over something. Baylee nced down and saw a long leg stretched across her doorstep. It seemed Marvin was afraid she might leave, so he extended his leg to block her exit.
His hair was disheveled, and his white shirt was now creased. Baylee wasn’t sure how much he had drunk; the staircase reeked of alcohol.
Ignoring him, she shut the door firmly and descended the stairs.
Baylee visited the property management office first and firmly stated that she had ended things with Marvin. She insisted that they should not allow Marvin back into the neighborhood.
The staff member looked embarrassed as he replied, “Miss Curtis, Mr. Hill also lives here. His apartment is right next to yours…”
Baylee frowned in frustration. She had forgotten that when Marvin had stayed at her ce, Marcelo had bought the apartments next to and below hers!
She was so furious that she wanted to curse!
Just moments before, Baylee had nearly tripped over Marvin’s leg, causing him to stir awake. After a while, Marvin was fully awake. He looked around and realized he was at Baylee’s doorstep. Marvin found it absurd that he had spent the entire night there!
As he got to his feet, he suddenly recalled someone nearly tripping over his leg. He instinctively felt it was Baylee, so he hadn’t opened his eyes then. Now, Baylee was gone, and the opportunity to talk to her had slipped away.
The ache in Ellie’s eyes persisted for a whole minute. Setting down the parenting book, she couldn’t bring herself to read any further. She lifted the mirror and gazed at herself with concern. Her eyes were clear, unchanged to the naked eye.
