    For days, Ellie had been careful with her eyes. Despite giving them rest and reading less, they hadn’t improved.


    Before bedtime, Kaiden phoned Ellie as usual and read to her. Kaiden hadpleted the beginning of The Little Prince and was now on the part about the danger of the baobab trees.


    “When will you finish your work, Kaiden?” Ellie inquired.


    “Do you miss me?” Kaiden responded, his voice warm.


    Ellie gazed at Kaiden’s gentle, affectionate eyes through her phone, but remained silent.


    She was concerned about her eyes. Kaiden reassured her, “Soon. I’ll be back this weekend.” Three days still remained.


    “Okay,” Ellie replied, “you can continue reading.”


    The next morning, Ellie noticed that her eyes stayed dark longer than usual. She couldn’t wait for Kaiden to return and apany her to the hospital.


    She underwent an eye examination at a prominent hospital in Critport, but the results indicated her eyes were normal. Without identifying the cause, finding a cure remained elusive.


    “Madam, for moreprehensive examination data, consider a brain CT or even a full-body CT scan,” the doctor suggested, adding, “But the equipment’s radiation could pose risks to your baby.”


    Ellie shook her head decisively. She couldn’t put her baby at risk!


    The doctor mused, “A colleague has a patient with simr eye issues. I’ll speak with him and see if he can provide insights. I’ll contact you once I have more information.”


    “Can I know the patient’s name? I’d like to reach out to them myself.”


    Doctors were bound by confidentiality. If the doctor didn’t disclose it, Ellie decided to search for the patient privately.


    “The patient is from a psychiatric hospital. Herst name is Lambert, but I don’t know her first name. Her guardian’sst name is Thorpe,” the doctor exined.


    Many people had thest name Thorpe, but Ellie could only recall a few Thorpes linked to someone with the surname Lambert who was from a psychiatric hospital. Talon, Erick, Jorge, and… Kaiden.

    “What’s her guardian’s full name? Can you tell me?” Ellie asked, her anxiety evident.


    The doctor shook his head. “I’m not sure. I just know hisst name is Thorpe.”


    “Alright, thanks.”


    This update made Ellie feel even worse. She asked the driver to take her to Rich Bar.


    Once at Rich Bar, Harry arranged for another car and bodyguards to discreetly escort her to the psychiatric hospital where Carole was. This ensured she couldpletely avoid Kaiden’s men.


    “Ma’am, please show me your ID certificate,” one of the hospital security guards asked as he stopped Ellie.


    “We won’t enter. We just want to inquire about the condition of a patient named Carole Lambert. She’s an old acquaintance of my employer, but my employer is pregnant, and it’s not suitable for her toe inside,” Harry exined.


    He quickly handed the security guard a wad of cash.


    The guard immediately smiled and said, “What would you like to know? Since you’re friends with a patient here, I can share what I know, as long as it’s not private.”
