Chapter 995

    ?Chapter 995:

Kaiden purchased the electronic edition of The Little Prince online and started reading from the beginning.

His voice came through the receiver, sounding different from the one Ellie had heard the previous night. He was typically cold and aloof, but now he was reading The Little Prince for her. The contrast brought a smile to Ellie’s face.

    “Kaiden.”

    “What?”

Kaiden was interrupted, but he still responded patiently.

“Do your employees know you’re reading children’s books?” Ellie’s tone carried a hint of teasing.

Kaiden’s expression froze. He nced at the merger and acquisition report in front of him and replied, “They won’t know.”

Ellie felt a rush of warmth. This was a new experience for her. They had been chatting on the phone. She had never spent such a long time talking to Kaiden on the phone before.

“Shut your eyes, Ellie,” Kaiden said. He felt frustrated. He had been reading aloud for more than ten minutes, yet Ellie still had her eyes wide open.

“I’m going to sleep now,” Ellie finally agreed, closing her eyes reluctantly, still catching his voice in her ears. It was aforting and familiar sound.

“Mr. Thorpe, when will the meeting resume…”

The moment Bruce stepped into the room, he heard Kaiden speaking French. He initially thought Kaiden was discussing business with partners. However, on closer listening, Bruce caught phrases like The Little Prince and Red Rose. This… didn’t sound like the typical talk of a twenty-eight-year-old guy.

Bruce had many questions swirling in his mind, but as a capable subordinate, he had to stay calm. He managed to stay quiet and waited for his boss to end the phone call.

As a consequence, Kaiden gave Bruce a cold stare. He gestured for Bruce to leave.

    Bruce couldn’t find any words.

“Bruce, where’s Mr. Thorpe? Didn’t he say he was taking a twenty-minute break? It’s been forty minutes already,” the finance manager pressed anxiously.

Bruce shook his head, gesturing toward the room. “Mr. Thorpe is on the phone.”

The finance manager was intrigued. “Which executive is calling Mr. Thorpe at this time? The project team was swamped, with Kaiden pushing to wrap up the work and return to Critport early.”

“Not an executive,” Bruce was baffled too. “Mr. Thorpe was talking about The Little Prince and Red Roses. I don’t get it.”

The finance manager had a knowing expression. “The Little Prince. It’s a ssic children’s book. When my wife was pregnant, she used to read it, saying it was good for prenatal education.”

Bruce was at a loss for words.

The finance manager spected with surprise, “Mr. Thorpe was actually discussing The Little Prince with his wife?” Bruce was just as astonished.

Kaiden wasn’t just discussing; he was reading the French text from a tablet to his wife. It was like a father reading a story to his daughter.

It wasn’t until twenty minutester that Kaiden emerged from the lounge. The members of the project team exchanged knowing smiles.
