Chapter 994

    ?Chapter 994:

“I’ve been hurt by men before, so I’m scared of love. Quincy hurt me once, and now Marvin has hurt me again. I need to learn my lesson,” Baylee sighed. To be honest, she feared getting hurt again.

“To be fair, it’s not all Marvin’s fault. He exined things sincerely, but I can’t trust him anymore,” Baylee reflected, thinking back carefully. Fear was at the heart of it all. She dreaded discovering more lies after putting her trust in Marvin. Once Baylee shared this, Ellie stopped probing.

They avoided discussing men and instead talked about their joint business ventures and future ns for Ellie’s baby.

After dinner, Ellie suggested, “Kaiden’s not home. Want to stay over? We can sleep together. The baby tends to be active at night.”

Baylee nced at Ellie’s belly briefly before shaking her head. “I think I’ll pass. If I stay, your husband might not let me visit Moon Manor again.” Baylee understood how protective Kaiden was of Ellie. It reminded her of Marvin’s jealousy when she hung out with friends…

Reflecting on this, Baylee silently bit her lip. Why was Marvin on her mind?

Ellie usually turned in early, by nine o’clock. She was reading a parenting book when the sharp pain shot through her eyes again, making it hard to focus. Ellie grimaced. Just then, her phone rang.

She picked up the call. Kaiden’s handsome face popped up on the screen. He still had on a shirt, his tie loosened. His hair was neatlybed, and the room behind him had brown walls, typical of meeting rooms or hotel lounges. A projector hung on the wall.

“What do you need?” Ellie asked.

On the screen, Kaiden’s eyes seemed less gentle than in person. The video made him appear more regal and distant.

“You’re my wife. Can’t I call you when I miss you?” Kaiden sounded crestfallen. If he hadn’t been far from Ellie, he might have jokingly pinched her cheek as a yful reprimand.

“You haven’t returned to your hotel room yet, so I figured you’re still working. I didn’t think you were calling just to chat,” Ellie exined.

“Put your phone away from your face,” he instructed.

    Updates loaded now at gα?ησνe?s

Without understanding why, Ellie obeyed. After a few moments, her hand grew tired of making such a gesture, and she pulled it back.

“Why should I put my phone away from my face?”

“To see if Baylee’s with you.”

Kaiden’s expression seemed to convey, “Baylee made a wise choice to leave.” Ellie was left speechless. It had to be admitted, Baylee had shown remarkable foresight.

“Go ahead and get your work done. I’m going to bed,” Ellie dered.

“Don’t you usually read before bed? Can you sleep without reading?” Kaiden teased. Having shared a bed for so long, Kaiden knew that Ellie’s bedtime routine involved either intimacy or reading.

Ellie blinked guiltily and pushed the book aside.

“Turn on the speaker. Just close your eyes, and I’ll read to you,” he suggested.

“What will you read?” Ellie asked curiously, plying as she turned on the speaker and settled into bed.

“What would you like me to read?” Kaiden inquired. In the digital age, everything could be found online.

After some consideration, Ellie replied, “Just read The Little Prince. I prefer the original version in French.”
