Chapter 866

    ?Chapter 866:

After Ellie had left, Kristopher began coughing violently, aggravating an open wound, causing his bandages to stain with blood.

A nurse quickly acted, sounding an rm and summoning a doctor.

Kristopher, with a stern look, told the nurse, “I didn’t see her. Make sure to remind my father of his promise when you report to him.” The nurse went pale at his words.

After escorting Ellie back to her hotel, where she was met by the Lambert siblings and Baylee, Kaiden returned to the hospital. The bodyguard was already bracing for Kaiden’s return.

“Mr. Thorpe, Mr. Wright is currently receiving treatment for his injuries. Please, you’ll have to wait.”

The air was filled with the scent of blood mixed with disinfectant.

Kaiden stood at the doorway, waiting for the nurse to finish and leave.

Kristophery on the bed, looking extremely tired. The readings on his heart monitor were lower than expected for someone in good health.

“Thank you for what you have done,” Kaiden said, standing beside the bed but choosing not to sit. His choice to remain standing made it clear he didn’t n on staying long.

“No need to thank me,” Kristopher replied.

The rtionship between him and Ellie waspletely unrted to Kaiden.

Once Kaiden grasped his point, he let out a mockingugh.

“Mr. Wright, you saved my wife and our baby. I owe you my gratitude. However…” Kaiden changed the subject. “Your avoidance of my wife is causing her distress.”

Kaiden wasn’t fooled by any excuses iming that everything was settled—especially not by someone who was his rival in love.

“Why would that be wrong?” Kristopher asked.

“It’s causing Ellie to feel ufortable.”

“It’s your job to make her feel better, Kaiden. If you’re not up to it, maybe it’s time to give up on her!”

Kristopher tried to speak again but was cut off by a severe, uncontroble cough, leaving him unable to talk for a moment.

He nced at Kaiden, who was still by his bed, with envy in his gaze.

“Kristopher, you have feelings for Ellie,” Kaiden stated bluntly.

Kristopher didn’t respond, just gave Kaiden a cold look, his eyes reflecting struggle and self-mockery. Loving her? That seemed out of reach.

Love thrives on being together over time. His health didn’t allow for thatmitment.

Kaiden remarked once more, “With a strong body, you’d likely not settle for just friendship with her.”

    “Yes!”

Before Kristopher could finish his words, he was interrupted by another fit of coughing.

Upon hearing the word “yes,” Kaiden’s expression soured into a tight frown.
