Chapter 865

    ?Chapter 865:

The next day, a nurse called Ellie to inform her that Bolton had been temporarily called away.

“I’d still like to see Kristopher.” After she hung up, Ellie turned to Kaiden with a hopeful look.

She was seeking his take on the situation.

Kaiden gently tousled Ellie’s hair and assured her, “I’ll go with you.”

He knew she would keep worrying about Kristopher if she didn’t go.

Yet, upon arriving at the hospital room, Ellie was barred entry once more. “Miss Gordon, Kristopher doesn’t want to see you.” The bodyguard at the door specifically made it clear it was Kristopher’s own request.

Ellie stood there, puzzled by Kristopher’s decision to decline meeting her. “Um, why?”

“Kristopher mentioned that he’s resolved his issues with you, so there’s no point in seeing each other again.”

    “Kristopher!”

Ellie’s head turned towards the direction of the ward instinctively, but a bodyguard blocked her path.

At that moment, Kaiden reached out and firmly grasped Ellie’s wrist.

It was an instinctive move on his part. He didn’t want her to meet Kristopher.

“Take it easy, Ellie,” Kaiden urged.

But Ellie found herself surprisingly calm.

Her calmness allowed her to spot a w in Kristopher’s reasoning.

He assumed their issues had been resolved because he had saved her life.

But what about the debts she still owed him?

    Didn’t he care about those?

Or… was he oblivious to the fact that she knew about the heart condition that afflicted him, a condition tied to her in some manner? Ellie was overwhelmed by a sense of injustice and unfairness.

“What would you like to say to him?” Kaiden, trying to hide his jealousy, asked with a soft tone.

Ellie shook her head. “I’m not sure… Never mind. Let’s leave.” She had hoped to see for herself that he was alright.

    She wanted to thank him.

But Kristopher had rejected their visits.

As Kaiden and Ellie were about to depart, Kaiden paused and nced back at the hospital room.

Through the tiny window in the door, their gazes locked.

    Neither man looked away.

One showed no surprise at seeing the figure behind the door, and the other seemed equally unsurprised to be seen.
