    Every time she closed her eyes, Ellie couldn’t stop picturing Kristopher’s frail figure, and Bolton’s words echoed in her mind.


    She hadn’t done anything wrong.


    Yet, she couldn’t shake the guilt, feeling as though she was the cause of everything.


    Seeing Kaiden getting dressed and ready to leave surprised Ellie.


    “Glenn and the others justnded at the airport,” Kaiden said, catching on to her confusion.


    He thought Ellie would catch up on some sleep and had nned to meet them alone, which was why he hadn’t mentioned it earlier.


    Upon hearing this, Ellie quickly got dressed too.


    She was eager to meet Glenn and hear his side of the story.


    Just then, Kaiden’s phone started ringing.


    He answered it with a calm demeanor and shot a quick nce at Ellie. Ellie, noticing the nce, inquired, “Was that call from Mr. Lambert, or… maybe the hospital?”


    Kaiden didn’t feel like telling Ellie the truth, but seeing the anticipation and anxiety in her eyes, he found himself unable to lie.


    “Kristopher’s awake.”


    Ellie let out a long sigh of relief and said joyfully, “Can we arrange for Mr. Lambert to meet us directly at the hospital?”


    She was still notfortable referring to Glenn by his name, even though he was family.


    Kaiden’s grip on his phone tightened. “Sure.”


    She had beenposed before, and perhaps she hadn’t even realized it, but the moment she heard Kristopher’s news, her eyes sparkled.

    At the hospital


    As Ellie hurried to Kristopher’s room, she was stopped by the bodyguards outside. Bolton was not letting her in.


    “Ma’am, the patient is stable now. You don’t need to worry,” the nurse said kindly, adding a bit of tease. “The first thing he did upon waking up was ask for ‘Ellie.’ He must really care about you!” Kaiden gave the nurse a cold look.


    “Thanks.” Grasping Kaiden’s hand, Ellie said, “If you can, please thank him for me and let him know my husband and I came by, and that I’m doing well.” Bolton was stopping her from visiting Kristopher, and Ellie chose not to push it, to avoid putting Kristopher in a tough spot.


    She nned to visit Kristopher again when Bolton wasn’t around.


    Hearing Ellie emphasize “my husband,” the nurse realized her mistake about Ellie and Kristopher’s rtionship. She offered an awkward smile and avoided Kaiden’s gaze.


    “Glenn’s here,” Kaiden informed Ellie.
