    Before taking off, Ellie peered through the ward’s tiny window. Inside, Bolton appeared to be in the midst of a discussion. Kristopher, lying in the bed, cast his gaze downwards, offering no reply.


    In the ward, the moment Ellie looked away, Kristopher’s eyes followed her. He caught a glimpse of Ellie walking away, with Kaiden by her side.


    “Kristopher, I never should’ve let you get close to her! How many times have you ended up in the hospital because of her? Tell me!” Bolton, overwhelmed with anger and regret, scolded him.


    He had discovered that Kristopher had been in touch with Ellie for quite some time. Moreover, he had warned Kristopher that Ellie was the reason behind the loss of his mother and his well-being.


    He had hoped Kristopher would see his enemy as nothing more than a toy. But to his dismay, his son had fallen for Ellie.


    “Dad.” Kristopher struggled to express himself. “You’re upset because you intended to kill Ellie but ended up hurting me instead, aren’t you?” His question sounded more like a statement of fact.


    Bolton stared back at Kristopher, his gaze piercing.


    After watching the Gordon family closely for years, Kristopher understood Litzy well. Litzy now centered her life around Demi and strived to make things right. With Demi in a tough spot, Litzy shouldn’t have taken the risk of killing Ellie. Unless there was something to gain!


    “Kristopher, that woman brings bad luck!” Bolton hissed.


    “Dad, if you’re asking me to avoid Ellie, I’ll only consider it if you promise to stay away from her.”


    In the hospital corridor, Katharine spotted Ellie, quickly walked up to her, and wrapped her in a hug.


    Ellie was taken aback. She wasn’t ustomed to the warmth Katharine was showering her with. Yet, she didn’t pull away.

    “I’m okay.” Ellie did her best to sound casual.


    “You’re not looking too well yourself.” Katharine examined Ellie’s face and expressed her concern, saying, “You’ve lost weight.”


    “I’ll be alright in a few days,” Ellie reassured her.


    Glenn and the others had received the full update during their journey, but their concern for Ellie drove them to see her themselves. Seeing the Lambert family’s siblings, Ellie felt aforting warmth.


    Then, her phone started ringing.


    Even though the caller ID didn’t show a name, Ellie recognized the number.


    Carole was on the line!


    “Ellie, I heard that you were the person I unintentionally rescued that day. What are the odds?” Carole’s voice was still a bit frail as she inquired, “How are you holding up? Did you get hurt?”
