    Ellie listened in disbelief, shifting her gaze towards Kristopher’s ward. This was all news to her.


    Kristopher had imed he looked after her like a pet, merely for the fun of it…


    Kaiden had initially thought Bolton spoke out of grief.


    But when their eyes met, it became clear that Bolton aimed to show the depth of Kristopher’s affection for Ellie, trying to drive a wedge between Kaiden and Ellie!


    Kaiden smiled with a hint of irony. This smile was his way of brushing off Bolton’s words. It seemed that Bolton’sments didn’t bother him in the slightest.


    “Mr. Wright, should there be any updates on your son’s condition, please let me know,” Kaiden said, ncing at Bruce.


    Bruce handed a business card to Bolton’s assistant. “Why don’t you go get some rest?” Kaiden urged Ellie.


    Ellie was clearly worried about Kristopher.


    “El, you might not need rest, but the baby does,” Baylee chimed in immediately. After cing a hand on her belly, Ellie decided to follow Kaiden to a nearby hotel.


    Once there, Kaiden made a call to order some food.


    As Ellie sat on the couch, she received a text from Baylee: “If you stay there any longer, I worry Kaiden might get upset. You get that?”


    And that was when it clicked for Ellie.


    She had thought that Kristopher had risked his life for her and hadn’t realized that staying there after Bolton’s harsh words was like a p in the face to Kaiden. Kaiden was now on the phone by the window, his back to Ellie, his posture tall and distant. Yet, whenever he faced her, his special warmth for her was unmistakable.


    Prompted by a feeling, Ellie got up and walked towards him. It seemed Kaiden felt her approach. He turned just as she threw herself into his arms, embracing him tightly and resting her head against his chest to listen to his heartbeat in silence.


    “I’m sorry, Kaiden.”

    His voice held a chill, but his fingers stroked her hair with softness.


    “I’m sorry if I made you upset. It’s just that, with Kristopher…”


    Ellie’s words were cut short as he kissed her, catching her off guard.


    Kaiden then turned her around, pressing her against the French window for a passionate, intense kiss, their affection unmistakable. The kiss overflowed with tangled feelings, even carrying a trace of retribution.


    Ellie hadn’t experienced such an overpowering moment from Kaiden in ages. She instinctively tried to pull away, but he firmly pinned her wrists above her head, leaving her at his mercy.


    He was indeed furious.

However, the taste of blood in her mouth soon made her nauseous, causing a deep frown to form on her face. Using all her might, Ellie shoved Kaiden away. Scarcely able to stand, she bent over and threw up. Since she hadn’t eaten in a while, only bile came out.
