Chapter 852

    ?Chapter 852:

“We need to dig a bit deeper with the Gordon family for more details,” Daniel said.

    Sadly, Litzy had passed away.

“I’m okay, you don’t have toe over. I’m really okay, Marvin. Isn’t there enough going on with your own family to keep you upied? Well… It’s not that I don’t like you or anything!” Baylee sighed over the phone. After learning about the car crash, Marvin immediately called Baylee.

Ellie, listening to their conversation, felt a soothing warmth. The private hospital was nearly empty.

In silence, every footstep echoed distinctly. Ellie sensed someone’s presence. Turning around, she saw Kaiden approaching her.

Noticing the food box beside Ellie remained untouched, Kaiden tenderly caressed her face. She looked thinner. She had been away on business for barely a fortnight, yet she seemed to have lost a significant amount of weight.

“Why aren’t you eating?” Kaiden asked.

“I just don’t have the appetite,” Ellie replied, her voice faint.

She then inquired, “How’s Carole doing?”

“She’s okay. Just needs some rest,” Kaiden replied.

Right after he said that, Ellie stared at him, silent.

“Is something wrong?” Kaiden chuckled. He remembered times when he was the quiet one and others would start the conversation. Now, he found himself trying to understand what Ellie was feeling, and he didn’t mind at all.

“Didn’t Carole have anything else to say?” Ellie asked, her tone thoughtful. “She must have had a reason for requesting your visit. It’s unlike her to not say anything.”

Ellie knew that Carole would either try to appear noble for having coincidentally saved her in front of Kaiden or would have a favor to ask.

“She mentioned wanting to go home,” Kaiden exined.

Ellie frowned, asking, “And what did you say to that?”

“I told her I needed to talk it over with you first.”

“Kaiden, you’re not trying to make me out to be the viin, are you?”

Ellie’s hair was loosely tied in a ponytail with a ck headband. Amid the day’s stress, she hadn’t spared a thought for her appearance.

Kaiden removed her headband and awkwardly gathered her hair, tying it at her sides with his hands.

“What do you think?” he asked softly.

His attempt at securing her hair was clumsy. Wanting to avoid hurting Ellie, he tied it so loosely that it fell out when she turned her head. The headband slipped from the end of her hair.

Kaiden caught the headband just in time.

Ellie took it from him and redid her hair. “I’ve decided to y the viin this time,” she announced, lifting her chin. “I owe Carole a thank you, but I don’t necessarily have to give her exactly what she wants. I…”
