?Chapter 775:
As she spoke, she nced back to find Marvin wearing a look that said, “Does that mean I could havee in and waited?” Baylee wished she could retract her statement.
She had never changed the lock’sbination, and Marvin’s fingerprint was still authorized. He could have let himself in anytime, but his decision to wait outside without intruding filled her with a sense of joy.
“You can get your slippers from the cab,” she mentioned before turning away to busy herself with arranging the flowers in a vase, acting as if Marvin wasn’t there.
Half an hourter, Baylee had finished with the flowers. By then, Marvin had made himself tea and was sitting on the sofa, watching her.
“You sure don’t behave like a visitor,” Baylee couldn’t resist pointing out. Marvin handed her a ss of warm water.
“Baylee, you were the one who kissed me first. Why would I act like a visitor?” Marvin teased.
Baylee was at a loss for words.
“Or are you nning to deny it and act like nothing happened? Really? Everyone already thinks you’re going to be my wife.”
“You’re pushing me into a corner, aren’t you?” Baylee took a sip of water and gave him a look. “It’s all up to you.”
She set the ss down, struggling to find the right words.
Marvin watched her calmly, waiting for her to speak.
“Marvin, have you really thought about this?” Baylee asked, though her question seemed out of ce.
Marvin found it amusing. She was still questioning his intentions.
Marvin stood, approached Baylee, and looked into her eyes.
“Baylee, I’m not Quincy. I know exactly what I’m after.”
???????? ?????????????? ???? ??????????????????.??????
Baylee looked at Marvin with a smile. “Mr. Hill,” she began, “why do you always subtly criticize your cousin?”
“I’m not criticizing anyone,” Marvin replied defensively.
He tentatively raised his hand, testing her reaction. Seeing no resistance, he pinched her earlobe. “I’m criticizing my former rival in love,” he exined.
Baylee couldn’t help butugh, the sound bubbling up uncontrobly. Seizing the moment, Marvin asked, “Baylee, would you do me the honor of bing my wife?”
Baylee shook her head.
Unfazed, Marvin took a step closer.
Instinctively, Baylee took a step back, but her heel caught on the sofa, leaving her unsteady and with no room to retreat.
With lightning reflexes, Marvin reached out and steadied her by the waist. “Then how about considering being my girlfriend first?” He settled for the next best thing.
“Mr. Hill,” Baylee said, trying to sound serious as she pushed against his chest. “Don’t pretend to be something you’re not. Are you unfamiliar with your reputation?”
