    “Miss Gordon, you can’t possibly be suspecting Darrell first and now me?” Carole countered. “I get where you’reing from, but I was with Katharine throughout Baylee’s ident.”


    Katharine gave her a look. She really didn’t want to give Carole an alibi.

    The door to the ward swung open, and Marvin came out.


    Ellie seized the moment and said, “Mr. Hill, perhaps you could look into what happened to Baylee?”


    Marvin agreed without hesitation, “Alright.”


    Carole, meanwhile, seemed visibly unsettled.


    Before she took her leave, Katharine left her contact details with Ellie, offering her assistance if needed.


    “Carole, aren’t you going as well?” Katharine asked, noticing Carole’s stillness beside her.


    Carole offered a small smile. “Katharine, I think I’ll stay a bit longer, and wait for Baylee to wake up.”


    She wanted to have more time with Kaiden, as well as keep track of how the investigation was progressing.


    Katharine’s lips curved slightly. “You and Baylee aren’t exactly close friends. She might not want to see you when she wakes up.”


    Carole looked pale under Katharine’s straightforward remark.


    “Why leave this matter to Marvin?” Kaiden inquired, thinking Ellie would handle it personally.


    Ellie held Kaiden’s gaze for a moment.


    Kaiden quickly grasped the situation. “You suspect Carole might be involved, and you’re worried I might take her side.”
