Chapter 536

    ?Chapter 536:

Brisa was the one who kept saying to him, “Kaiden, you should call him dad and ask him to be with you, okay? If you see anyone who might meet your dad, tell them you miss him and hope hees to see you, okay? Understand? Why are you silent? Can’t you speak?”

Young Kaiden didn’t want to say those things. It was always Brisa who seemed to long for Jorge. Did Jorge even deserve to be called “Dad”?

Before he turned five, Kaiden’s questions about “dad” were simply attempts to understand why Brisa was so attached to this man. Eventually, he figured out what “dad” meant when he was repeatedly forced to get sick for Jorge’s visits.

Oh, so that’s what “dad” was—nothing worth the trouble at all.

Brisa looked confused by Kaiden’s reaction. She began to feel overwhelmed, talking to herself in confusion. The woman who had seemedposed just moments ago now held her head in her hands, shaking, her eyes darting back and forth between Kaiden and Jorge, clearly struggling with her thoughts. She was having a hysterical episode.

Kaiden, keeping his cool, quickly handed Brisa two pills. These pills, meant to soothe, worked fast.

Brisa rxed, lying back on the bed, and drifted gently to sleep. Kaiden, having finished his task, noticed Ellie’s gaze fixed on him.

“Did that scare you?” he asked, gently taking her hand.

It was unclear whether he was referring to Brisa’s actions or his own seemingly indifferent reaction.

Ellie shook her head. “No, not scared. Just really surprised.”

She was taken aback by how Kaiden seemed to have mixed feelings about Brisa.

“Do you always provoke your mom like that?” Jorge chided Kaiden. With a mocking smile, Kaiden retorted, “Isn’t she in that condition because of you?”

“You are being disrespectful!” Jorge, clearly upset, scolded him before turning his attention to Kaiden’s legs, unable to hide his concern. “Are your legs fully healed?”

Kaiden’s regr trips to Clitport University hadn’t gone unnoticed. He doubted Jorge’s informants hadn’t filled him in already.

“Rx, the Thorpe family doesn’t interest me one bit,” Kaiden said, his voiceced with slight scorn.

“But you’re my son as well. You also have a share in inheriting the Thorpe family,” Jorge, visibly aged, seemed to regard this son with a sense of newfound appreciation.

Kaiden didn’t respond, but the subtle smirk ying on his lips spoke volumes. He signaled for Carole to join him in the small living room, making sure he stayed within Ellie’s view, whether intentionally or not.

“Kaiden…” Carole began, filled with hope that Kaiden might finally put past grievances aside, especially since Leo’s passing had made him more agreeable to her wishes.

“Pack your bags and leave Harvillston. Start the paperwork tomorrow,” Kaiden cut in. “With your skills and good name, you’ll find a top-notch job anywhere in the country.”

Carole was shocked. “You… You’re telling me to leave Harvillston? But why?” Her question, filled with sudden sadness and a sense of betrayal, cut through the air. “Is it because of Ellie?”
