    No one had ever taught him how to apologize, let alone how to express his true feelings. What little he knew of married life came from witnessing his parents’ disastrous marriage, which consisted mainly of all the suffering Jorge had subjected Brisa to.


    Ellie had once told him that he could never give her what she wanted. She had mentioned marital fidelity, something that Kaiden thought was a given, and had provided without question.

    Kaiden had thought long and hard about it, but he wasn’t sure he even understood what he wascking in the first ce.


    He had been sitting in his car, staring at Ellie for over two hours before she turned her head in his direction.


    The car window was one-way ss, so she couldn’t have seen him.


    But the moment her eyes fell on the window of the back seat, Kaiden felt as if her gaze had stripped him to his core, leaving him raw and vulnerable.


    A wave of guilt hit him from out of nowhere, mixed with a trace of excitement that she had noticed him.


    However, events unfolded in an unexpected manner.


    Ellie stood up, gathered her books andptop, and moved to another spot behind the shelves. He couldn’t see her anymore.


    Kaiden blinked, his lips pressing into a thin line.


    She was angry.


    It wasn’t an explosive rage, but more of a quiet indifference that usually followed extreme disappointment. She was shutting him out, and that somehow hurt more than if she yelled and ranted at him. Kaiden felt a weight pressing against his chest, choking his heart and making it hard for him to breathe.


    Deep down, however, a voice reminded him that he had done this to himself.


    After moving to a spot out of Kaiden’s view, Ellie found it surprisingly difficult to focus on her work.

    “Ellie, are you feeling ill?” Howard asked in concern. He had quickly switched ces with a student so he could sit beside Ellie.


    “No, I’m fine,” Ellie assured him.


    The Maybach was what was on her mind.


    She just couldn’t understand why Kaiden’s car was there again.


    Was he so idle? Didn’t he have anything to do at work?


    Shouldn’t he be spending time with Carole?


    Well, frankly, the presence of his car shouldn’t concern her, as long as he wasn’t there because of her.


    Throughout the afternoon, the Maybach remained parked outside the library. Just as dusk was about to fall, Ellie and Howard decided to leave.


    “Ellie, that looks like Mr. Thorpe’s car, right?” Howard remarked when he saw the Maybach.


    “Is it? Well, I didn’t notice,” Ellie lied with a shrug. She didn’t even nce at the Maybach.


    Howard found this surprising and couldn’t help but break into a smile.


    Ellie had such a whimsical yet cute side to her.
