    “What was I thinking?” Zoey murmured, her eyes wide and zed. “I was thinking of Mr. Thorpe…”


    “What?” Bruce asked, frowning as he didn’t catch her words.


    With tears pooling in her eyes, Zoey squared her shoulders and strode back into the CEO’s office.


    She inquired, “Mr. Thorpe! Do you want to know why I did what I did?” Kaiden looked up from the documents he had been reading, his face nk as he said, “No.”


    He just wanted Zoey to be out of the picture.


    But Zoey plowed ahead as if he hadn’t said anything. “It’s because I have feelings for you! I stayed by your side all this time because I like you! I knew I could neverpete with Carole. I thought once she left the country, I would finally have a chance to be with you, but you… Why did you even marry Ellie, Kaiden? She’s a nobody! Why would you choose her when you never even nced my way?”


    Bruce stood by the doorway, aghast at the sudden and bold confession. Zoey hadpletely abandoned all formalities and was addressing Kaiden by his first name now.


    When Kaiden remained expressionless, Zoey grew desperate. Sheunched herself forward, both hands clutching the edge of his desk.


    She announced, “It doesn’t bother me that you’re married, Kaiden! I don’t even mind Carole hovering around you. Won’t you let me stay, please? I’ll do anything! I don’t need money or status, just let me stay by your side!”


    This time, Kaiden’s lips curled in disdain. Bruce sensed his disgust and promptly pulled Zoey back.


    “How dare you think you have hopes of recing Ellie? She is my wife! I have no intention of betraying her in any way.”


    For some reason, Zoey’s unprecedented confession made him realize what Ellie wanted from their rtionship.


    The thought was vague, though, and fleeting, and it escaped Kaiden before he could ponder it any further.


    “Are we going to the hospital, sir?” Bruce had just sent Zoey away, and when he returned to the office, he saw Kaiden grabbing his suit jacket and heading for the door.

    Obviously, Kaiden was skipping work today as well.


    “No, we’re going to the university.”


    The matters involving Brisa and Carole were more or less settled, anyway.
