Chapter 389

    ?Chapter 389:

From the master bedroom’s French windows, she could see into the study.

Lost in thought, Ellie noticed the light suddenly go out.

Instinctively, she curled up, feigning sleep.

But she realized; pretending to sleep never fooled Kaiden.

    The bedroom door opened softly.

As she expected, Kaiden approached the bed and sat down, asking, “Fancy some milk tea?”

    Ellie felt bewildered.

    Why would he offer that?

Surprised, she opened her eyes, sat up, and looked at Kaiden in confusion.

Unaware, the nket slipped from her shoulders, revealing a smooth, delicate shoulder, as tempting as a ripe pear.

Kaiden’s throat tightened visibly, and after a moment, he looked away.

It had been days since he and Ellie were close.

The tension was bing too much for him.

    He struggled to restrain himself.

“Do you want some milk tea?” he asked again.

“No, thank you,” Ellie responded, puzzled by his unusual offer.

Why would she have milk tea so close to bedtime? It would only keep her awake.

Kaiden pressed his lips together, thought for a moment, then suggested, “Maybe some fried chicken?”

“Kaiden, if there’s something on your mind, just say it,” Ellie began, but then it hit her.

Milk tea and fried chicken… That was their thing during the “Peerless Grace” shoot in the movie city, his way of lifting her spirits.

She noticed Kaiden’s eyes lingering on her exposed shoulder, almost like a predator eyeing its prey.

Swiftly, she adjusted her pajamas, her cheeks warming slightly.

“Kaiden, the old milk tea and fried chicken tactic won’t work again,” she said, her voice tinged with annoyance under themp’s dim light. “If you’ve nothing else, I need to sleep. There’s work tomorrow.”

As he remained quiet, she made a show of settling back under the nket.

But in an instant, his strong hand was on her shoulder, lifting her into his embrace.

Kaiden, on one knee on the bed, didn’t let go.

Her skin’s touch was irresistibly enticing.

“You can’t let Howard pick you up, ept his flowers, wear his clothes, or call him,” he dered, setting down four rules, causing Ellie to sneer despite herself.

“What about you? Picking her up at the airport, sending flowers, lending her clothes, making phone calls; haven’t you done all of these things? Kaiden, I’ve said it before, I expect loyalty in this marriage… If you can’t even offer that basicmitment, then maybe this marriage isn’t worth it!”
