Chapter 257

    ?Chapter 257:

When she stubbornly refused to look at him, he let go of her wrist and took her chin between his fingers, forcing her to meet his eyes. “I am your husband, Ellie. Youe in here, hand me a scarf, and then dere you want to sleep in a separate room? What exactly are you trying to say?”

Ellie winced from the pressure of Kaiden’s grasp. “I just don’t want to be in the same room as you, that’s all.” She needed to create some distance between them.

“Alright, fine. Do you think I care?” Kaiden’s chest rose and fell rapidly with anger. He pushed her toward the bed. “Stay here!”

With that, he stormed out of the room, mming the door behind him. When Ellie heard his footsteps stomping down the hall, she peeked her head out and saw Kaiden throw the scarf into the trash bin on the second-floornding. He threw it with enough force that the fabric made a loud thumping sound as it hit.

Ellie felt as though a sharp dagger had pierced her. There was a dull, throbbing ache in her heart.

She stared at the trash bin for a moment longer before returning to the bedroom. It was a gift, and Kaiden was free to do whatever he wanted with it.

So what if he didn’t like it? The matter was no longer in her hands.

A few minutester, she heard the roar of the Pagani’s engine. Ellie nced out the window just in time to see the sports car speed down the driveway and disappear into the night.

Jerome, watching from the doorway, didn’t know what to make of it.

Kaiden had barely been there for ten minutes, but he had already finished an entire bottle of wine. As disconcerting as it was, Jerome wasn’t unfamiliar with such behavior.

“What’s the problem, Kaiden?” he asked, his toneced with concern, but his eyes glinted with the unmistakable desire for gossip.

Jerome’s flight had been dyed, so he waste to Araceli’s birthday party. By the time he arrived, Kaiden and Ellie had already left. Just as the clock was about to strike midnight, he received an unexpected call from Kaiden, asking to meet up. He could more or less guess what had happened, but he still wanted the juicy details.

“Shut up,” Kaiden ran a hand over his face in exasperation.

Unfazed, Jerome prodded, “Did you have a fight with Ellie?”

Kaiden narrowed his eyes at his friend, as if to ask, “How did you know?” Jerome sat back and held up his palms. “You two left the party early. Someone said you were mad at Ellie. Apparently, you were scowling when you left the premises.”

Deep down, Jerome wondered if Kaiden was nning to dump Ellie. He was wise enough not to ask that out loud, at least not at the moment.

“We didn’t fight,” Kaiden muttered, even as he raised his ss and downed its contents.

Ellie’s apology kept ying over and over in his mind. She had told him she was sorry, yet he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that she was just pushing him away even more.

“Did Ellie have an outburst out of nowhere? Women like to do that, you know. Why don’t you tell me exactly what happened, and we’ll walk through the possibilities together?” Jerome was more than eager to “help” Kaiden with this.
