?Chapter 258:
Unfortunately for him, Kaiden wasn’t easy to fool. “You don’t even have a girlfriend, so what good is your help in a situation like this? Get off my case, man.”
Jerome gaped at him indignantly.
What was wrong with being single?
If anything, he was lucky that he had no one to fight with or cause him to drink.
“So you just want me to drink with you, huh? Got it.” Jerome sighed in resignation. He knew Kaiden well enough to know that he was getting nothing out of his friend. “By the way, the manager of Omiros’ team informed me that Omiros has fled. No one has found him yet.”
“He’s seventeen years old. If he doesn’t want to starve, he’ll turn up eventually.” Something else urred to Kaiden then. He fished his phone out of his pocket and called home. “Fetch the scarf in the trash bin on the second floor,” he told the servant who answered the call. “And make sure my wife doesn’t find out.”
Ellie liked to sleep in, but she woke up at seven o’clock sharp the next morning.
For some inexplicable reason, the absence of warmth on Kaiden’s side of the bed troubled Ellie.
She had tossed and turned most of the night, drifting back and forth between sleep and consciousness. Kaiden had not returned at all.
After freshening up, Ellie left the bedroom and found herself walking down the hall to check the trash bin. The bag had been reced by the servants, and she guessed that the scarf had been tossed out, along with the kitchen waste and other garbage.
Ellie ate breakfast in a somber mood. Afterward, she noticed a message from Baylee on WhatsApp.
“You had a fight with Kaiden?”
Ellie blinked at the screen in surprise and typed her response. “How do you know about that?”
gα?ησν????s??om has it all
“Practically everyone knows! Kaiden was spotted drinking the night away in some bar. Then, someone mentioned that he left Araceli’s birthday to take you home, and he didn’t look too pleased.”
Were they implying that he had to leave the party to take her home? Ellie had intended to leave on her own from the start!
But it never urred to Ellie that Kaiden would spend the entire night at the bar.
“Take a guess about the rumors going around right now,” Baylee messaged her.
Ellie sighed sarcastically and replied, “That Kaiden detests me and will probably break up with me soon?”
“Yep. That’s pretty much it.”
Baylee didn’t borate further. She and Ellie never got involved in each other’s affairs unless the other actively asked for advice.
Around noon, Ellie received a call from her former supervisor from graduate school. He wanted to know if she could stop by the university, as the faculty wanted to discuss something with her.
