Chapter 256

    ?Chapter 256:

The man stood beneath the doorframe, and the scent of smoke drifted out.

Preferring not to engage in conversation, Ellie proceeded downstairs.

“What’s the matter, Ellie? Are you throwing a tantrum?” Kaiden swiftly walked over and seized her wrist.

Gazing at the patterns on the floor, Ellie responded, “I’m not.” She didn’t believe she was throwing a tantrum.

There was no reason for such behavior, but deep down, she knew she did have a reason.

Kaiden pinned Ellie against the corridor railing, sneering. “Is this about me taking the gift from Edwin, Ellie?”

He wondered if she was upset with him just because of Edwin.

“It has nothing to do with Edwin,” Ellie asserted, confused by his sudden insistence on the matter.

“So, what’s going on?” Kaiden’s patience wore thin. “You’re the only one who’s made me repeat the same question, Ellie.”

Atst, Ellie lifted her head, fixing him with a piercing stare.

She asked, “What were you doing in Tormeto?”

Kaiden furrowed his brows, questioning, “Why do you want to know?” He had told her it was work-rted.

If it hadn’t been for urgent matters, he wouldn’t have arranged a private ne to Tormeto.

Ellie regarded him with a self-mocking smile.

When he left, he had imed it was for work. But then the headlines featured rumors about him and another woman, and it was that woman who answered his phone.

He had never mentioned the phone call she made. Was it because he chose not to bring it up, or did he think it wasn’t important enough to discuss?

Suddenly, Ellie didn’t want to linger on the subject. She took a deep breath and told Kaiden, “Let go of me. I have something for you.”

She then returned to the master bedroom and retrieved a dark gray cashmere scarf from the cloakroom.

“I have the gift I mentioned earlier for you,” Ellie said, handing him the scarf.

“It’srge enough to be used as a light nket for your legs,” she added, puzzled by his decision to feign a leg ailment, as she couldn’t understand the reason behind it.

Kaiden’s expression softened considerably as he received the cashmere scarf.

“Did you design this?” he asked, epting the scarf and preparing to inspect it.

“No,” Ellie admitted, her voice quiet. “I apologize, Kaiden. Today was my fault. I overstepped. It won’t happen again. I think I need some time to cool down. I should return to my room and get some sleep.”

Ellie turned away and started to leave.

Before she could take two steps, Kaiden grabbed her wrist and pulled her back. “What’s this supposed to be?” he demanded, holding the scarf up to her face. “A breakup gift?”
