Chapter 67

    ?Chapter 67:

“Is Kaiden treating you well?” Brisa inquired softly.

As memories of Kaiden’s difficult behavior came to mind, Ellie hesitated to respond.

Sensing the hesitation, Brisa’s smile dimmed.

“Kaiden,e here!” she called out sternly.

Kaiden, who had been observing from a short distance, approached Brisa in his wheelchair, his face a mask of impassivity.

“Wives should be cherished, Kaiden. Ellie is a catch, and many are vying for her attention. If you don’t value her, you’ll regret it,” Brisa chastised with a stern tone, emphasizing the importance of cherishing a partner like Ellie.

Kaiden responded with a nomittal grunt, seemingly unfazed by Brisa’s lecture.

After her brief scolding session, Brisa’s attention shifted to Ellie.

“Ellie, is Kaiden treating you well? If he’s ever unkind, just tell me. I’ll teach him a lesson!”

It appeared Brisa had momentarily forgotten her previous sermon.

Ellie, sensing an oddity in Brisa’s fluctuating mood, nced at Kaiden, searching for some sign of understanding. Kaiden, however, remained stoic, giving nothing away.

“He’s… good to me,” Ellie lied, masking her true feelings. “He just has a bit of a temper.”

“The upset look on your face upon arrival appeared to contradict your words,” Brisa probed, not entirely convinced by Ellie’s reassurance.

Ellie’s forced smile wavered as she scrambled for a believable excuse.

“Oh, I’m just exhausted fromst night. It’s not that I’m unhappy. Sorry for any confusion.”

Kaiden, observing the exchange, couldn’t help but let a smirk flicker across his face as Ellie struggled to maintain her facade.

“You are exhausted?” Brisa echoed, her tone suddenly changing, adopting a knowing look. “That’s understandable for young couples. Physical closeness is good for the rtionship.”

“Huh?” Ellie blurted out, flustered. “No, that’s not what I meant…”

“Ellie, there’s no need to be shy with me,” Brisa interrupted with a wink, dismissing Ellie’s attempts at rification.

Ellie, at a loss for words, felt trapped in a misunderstanding she couldn’t escape.

She nced desperately at Kaiden, hoping for his intervention. However, Kaiden, with an air of detachment, closed his eyes, feigning sleep.

Ellie realized she was on her own with this one.

Brisa, seemingly forgetful of the previous conversation, repeated her question after a while. At that moment, a nurse approached, noting it was time for Brisa’s medication.

“I don’t want it. It’s so bitter!” Brisa protested childishly as the nurse attempted to persuade her.

Ellie, observing the scene, felt a growing concern. Brisa’s behavior was far from typical for an adult.

Quietly, she edged closer to Kaiden and whispered, “Your mother, is she…”

Before she could finish, Brisa erupted in a fit of distress, knocking over her medicine and water. Clutching her hair, she sobbed inconsbly.

“Jorge, why hasn’t Jorge visited? What did I do wrong? Why doesn’t he love me anymore? Jorge! Where are you?”
