Chapter 68

    ?Chapter 68:

Those in the upper echelons of society were well aware that Jorge, the patriarch of the Thorpe family, had never truly let go of his first love and had shown little affection toward his wife, Brisa.

Brisa, who just moments ago had exuded elegance, turned into a figure of distress and confusion.

Only a tranquilizer could bring Brisa back to a state of calm.

Ellie stood frozen in shock, her mind reeling as the medical staff escorted Brisa away. It was only after they had disappeared that she found her voice.

    “Kaiden, your mother…”

“She suffers from a mental disorder,” Kaiden interjected, finishing her sentence.

His demeanor remained detached, even as he witnessed his mother’s episode. Thisck of reaction seemed to confirm the rumors about his ruthless, cold-hearted nature.

But what had transpired to render him so impassive, especially toward his own mother? What had caused Brisa, once a paragon of grace and beauty in Critport, to deteriorate into such a state?

A subtle, nagging difort began to gnaw at Ellie, a blend of sorrow and confusion fermenting within her.

A doctor came half an hourter and reassured Kaiden,

“Mr. Thorpe, Madam’s condition is stable for now. You’re familiar with her emotional swings; they’re quite unpredictable.”

Kaiden acknowledged this with a nod, then turned to Ellie, his voice devoid of warmth.

    “Let’s leave.”

Exiting the sanatorium, Ellie couldn’t shake off a creeping sense of dread. The idea that the Thorpe family had concealed Brisa’s existence for so long was unsettling.

She stayed silent until they were back in the car. Then, after a moment’s hesitation, she ventured,

    “Kaiden, about your mother…”

Ga ln ovels . fuels your imagination

“Don’t delve into matters that don’t concern you,” he interrupted sharply.

    Kaiden’s response cut Ellie short.

He sat stoically on the opposite side of the car, his face an impassive mask, seemingly unaffected by his mother’s distressing episode at the sanatorium.

Ellie’s curiosity was usually contained, but Brisa was an exception. In her middle school days, fraught with confusion and helplessness, it was Brisa who had extended a helping hand, guiding and encouraging Ellie to pursue her dreams.

Sitting up straight, Ellie asserted, “Mr. Thorpe, as yourwful wife, I have a right to understand the situation with my mother-inw.”

Kaiden turned towards her, noting her serious tone. He rolled down the window, letting in a gust of wind.

“Ellie, remember, curiosity killed the cat.”

“Fine,” Ellie muttered, her voice low. “But remember, your mother told you not to pick on me. I might just tell her about this next time.”

Kaiden, despite his indifferent facade, found his thoughts drifting to Ellie’s gentle interaction with Brisa at the sanatorium. It was a stark contrast to her fiery spirit when she shed with him. His heart inexplicably fluttered.
