Chapter 66

    ?Chapter 66:

“What should we do with the remaining shoes?” Bruce inquired.

“Take them to the manor,” Kaiden directed.

Arriving at their destination, they were greeted by a premier private sanatorium known for its exceptional staff and exclusive clientele.

“Madam dressed up early this morning, iming she’d meet her daughter-inw,” a caregiver shared as they walked. “She was initially upset about your marriage, but then something changed her moodpletely.”

Kaiden guessed the reason. His mother must have learned that Ellie was her daughter-inw and was pleased with her.

By the artificialke stood a woman, looking no more than in her early forties, draped in an elegantly handmade absinthe-green traditional dress. Her features bore a striking resemnce to Kaiden’s.

“Mom,” Kaiden greeted, his voice as cool as ever.

Ellie, taken aback, nced at Kaiden.

“That’s your mother?” she asked in disbelief, her voice trailing off. “But wasn’t she supposed to be…”

    “Dead?”

Kaiden’s response was calm, almost indifferent.

Ellie, caught in uncertainty, didn’t know how to react. To the world, the matriarch of the Thorpe family had been deceased for five years. How could it be that she was still alive?

Brisa, sensing the arrival of guests, turned and greeted Ellie with a genuine, warm smile, beckoning her closer.

    “Ellie,e over!”

Many Thorpe family members had anticipated Brisa’s displeasure with her new daughter-inw, unaware that Brisa held Ellie in high regard.

    Hesitantly, Ellie nced at Kaiden.

    “What should I do…”

“Go on.” Kaiden gestured, urging her forward.

Ellie recalled the few times she’d met Brisa as a child. Back then, Brisa exuded elegance and gentleness, but her eyes always carried a touch of sadness and burden.

Now, Brisa’s gaze was clear and innocent, reminiscent of a child’s.

“Mrs. Thorpe, hi, I…” Ellie began.

Before she could continue, Brisa took her hand gently, correcting her with a tender smile.

“Ellie, you shouldn’t call me Mrs. Thorpe now.”

Ellie paused, puzzled. Should she address her as Miss Chapman? Perhaps Brisa had divorced Kaiden’s father?

Brisa’s eyes twinkled with satisfaction as she affectionately instructed,

“Now that you and Kaiden are married, you should call me Mom!”

Brisa didn’t wait for Ellie’s response; instead, she led her to the chairs, expressing her joy.

“Ellie, you are now my daughter-inw. You don’t know how happy that makes me! It’s Kaiden’s luck that someone like you has affection for him, despite him being a jerk!”

Ellie was momentarily speechless, unsure whether to be stunned by Brisa’s enthusiasm or to agree with her assessment of Kaiden.
