Asorora Kindergarten was an elite private school in Jupiton, where most young heirs from wealthy families attended.
Xylia wore the soft yellow dress that Sonny had brought her the day before, along with light makeup. Standing at the kindergarten entrance, she felt somewhat dazed.
She knew this ce well–it used to be her who dropped off and picked up Sonny every day. But she hadn’t been back since she’d been sent to prison. This was her first time returning and also herst.
As an exclusive kindergarten, the anniversary celebration was more like a morous social gathering. Luxury cars crowded the entrance, and influential parents apanied their children through the gates. Xylia was the only one alone.
The security guard at the entrance stopped Xylia and asked, “Madam, do you have an invitation?”
“Invitation?” Xylia was confused.
“Yes,” the guard exined politely but firmly. “Invitations were sent home with the children. You’ll need one to enter today.”
Xylia stayed silent. This was Asorora Kindergarten’s first anniversary event, and she hadn’t been aware an invitation was needed. Sonny hadn’t given her one.
“I’m Sonny Ford’s mother. He didn’t give me an invitation. Could I possibly sign in?” Xylia asked.
“I’m sorry, that won’t be possible.” The guard was professional but unyielding.
Only then did Xylia call Sonny’s teacher, but the teacher said that Sonny’s mother had arrived long ago. Xylia finally realized that the mother whom the teacher referred to as Sonny’s mother must be Tessa. Sonny deliberately embarrassed her.
“I’m afraid without an invitation, I can’t let you in,” the guard repeated, blocking her path.
Xylia smiled bitterly, once again feeling she’d failed as a mother. But today was important. She had to get in.
“Mrs. Ford? Why aren’t you going in?”
A familiar, cheerful voice came from behind. Xylia turned and saw an acquaintance–one of Sonny’s ssmates‘ mothers. They’d asionally chatted about parenting before.
“Mrs. Martin, I don’t have an invitation, so I can’t get in,” Xylia said with a bitter smile.
“Come in with me, I brought the invitation letter,” Kali Martin said.
Since the kindergarten allowed guests apanied by invitation holders, the guard let them through.
“This anniversary event is quite grand,” Kali made small talk as they walked. “I heard they even invited the celebrity Leon Sadler. He rarely makes public appearances–I wonder if he’ll perform today.”

When they reached the ssroom, Xylia paused at the doorway. Inside, Connor and Tessa were adjusting Sonny’s outfit. Dressed in a little ck suit, Sonny was having shimmer powder brushed onto his eyelids by Tessa, while Connor watched them with a tender gaze.
Kali, standing beside Xylia, couldn’t help but blurt out, “Why do they look more like a family?”
She immediately regretted it. ncing awkwardly at Xylia, she tried to recover. “What I meant was, well, you and your sister have such a good rtionship.”
Xylia smiled faintly. “You’re not wrong. They are the family.”
Flustered, Kali excused herself to find her own son.
Just then, Connor looked up and noticed Xylia at the door.
Dressed in a delicate pale yellow dress with a gauzy ovey, light makeup, her hair pulled back and fastened with a tiny yellow–diamond butterfly clip, she looked youthful and radiant.
Frowning, Connor walked over and pulled her aside. “What are you doing here?” he asked, toneced with reproach.
Xylia let out a sarcasticugh. “I’m here for my son’s school event. Is that not allowed?”
She nced past him into the ssroom, where Tessa was smirking triumphantly. She looked at Connor again. “What’s wrong? Did I interrupt your perfect family moment?”
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Connor red coldly. “Is jealousy all you know? You know Tessa will being today, right?” he pressed, eyes sharp with usation.
Sonny had already made all the arrangements with Tessa, so he had no intention of inviting Xylia. In fact, no one had even informed her about the event. She must have shown up just to spite Tessa.
The disgust in his eyes deepened. “Tessa is your younger sister, yet you continue to target her time and again. I know Sonny prefers her, but that’s no reason to embarrass them both here.”
Xylia was rendered speechless by Connor’s words and could onlyugh.
As Sonny’s biological mother, she attended her son’s kindergarten anniversary celebration, yet still ended up causing an embarrassing incident.
She was about to say something when Tessa and Sonny walked out.
When Tessa saw Xylia, she was also somewhat surprised. “Xylia, what brings you here?”
Sonny frowned and looked at Xylia. “Mother, I did not invite you. Why did youe? Do you want to say in front of everyone that you are my mother and embarrass Tessa?”
Tessa gently pulled Sonny’s hand and quietly tried to reason with him. “Sonny, this is your fault. After all, she is your mother–how can you speak about her like that?”
“Tessa, she has repeatedly targeted you. You do not need to speak on her behalf. Sonny stared at Xylia with

A bitter, mocking smile touched Xylia’s lips. She had expected Sonny’s schemes, but facing her own son’s cruelty still stung. He was learning from Tessa–already mastering deception and maniption at such a
young age.
“So, Sonny, Xylia asked calmly, without raising her voice, “are you asking me to leave?”
Sonny looked panicked. He couldn’t let her leave–not yet. He had ns for herter, all meant to push his parents toward divorce.
Tessa smiled and stepped in to smooth things over. “Why leave? Now that you’re here, you should stay for the whole event with Sonny.” She nced at Sonny. “Right, Sonny?”
Sonny nodded. “Tessa’s right. Since you’re already here, just stay.”
Xylia turned to Connor once more and asked, “Do you have any further objections?”
Connor pulled her aside and threatened her in a low voice. “I’m warning you–we’re in public. Even if it’s for Sonny’s sake, don’t you dare make trouble for Tessa.”
