Guard 143

    Chapter143 Amalie

“You are both big softies for me,” I whisper tiredly as I try to stay awake.

“Amalie,” Cal tells me as he stands up to tower over me.

“Ama?” Mark whispers to me as if he can’t believe that I am awake.

“Hi,” I tell them. I feel so tired, as if someone is pulling me back to sleep. Something in the back of my head tells me that going to sleep is a horrible idea. I blink my eyes trying to stay awake.

“What happened?” Cal asks me sternly. I can see fear in his eyes, an emotion that is not normally there.

“I don’t… I don’t remember,” I answer him as I try to remember what happened. I blink my eyes again, trying to fight off sleep. Something is very wrong.

“Ama?” Mark asks as he looks down at me.

“I don’t remember, I know I was somewhere. I just can’t remember where,” I tell them. I feel sleep trying to pull me under.

“Don’t go to sleep love, Uncle William will want to talk to you,” Cal tells me.

“Can’t sleep,” I agree. I blink a few more times to try and stay awake.

“Don’t let her sleep!” Kira shouts as she shoves her way into my room. She pushes past my mates to look at me.

“We know that, Uncle Will wants to talk with her first before she can sleep again,” Mark says with an eye roll.

“No, if she falls asleep, the Countess can keep her trapped in that realm,” Kira says, her eyes are blown wide with fear.

I let out a gasp as everything falls into ce and I remember. The Countess, Francesca! She was keeping me trapped in the realm of sleep, so she had me at her mercy. She’s behind everything!

    “Amalie?” Cal demands.

I look up at him. In the back of my mind, the random thought flitters through. That Cal is so stressed that he has resorted to calling me by my full name instead of my nickname. I shake my head and focus back on the witch.

“Francesca has been behind everything,” I say. Sleep tries to pull me under more forcefully, trying to keep my secrets to myself. I swing my legs off the bed. I need to move. I have to stay awake for as long as possible.

“Darling,” Mark says, tryin to stop me from stand up.

“No, I have to move to stay awake, She is pulling me back,” I say stubbornly as I stand up,

“Okay, start from the begging for those of us who are confused,” James tries to joke.

“Francesca is a witch. She is the leader of the Coveh,” I say as I start to pace. My muscles are stiff and sore. They protest my movements. Everything in me screams to fall back to sleep. “She controls this realm, this sleep realm.”

“It’s where she hides her coven and those that are loyal or indentured to her,” Kira supplies helpfully.

I sigh and look up at the ceiling. Biting the bulley, I say, “She has been hijacking my dreams since I got away from Thomas and Marie.”

“What do you mean?” Cal growls at me.

“Just that, she has been pulling me to her realm for thest few weeks when I am asleep. For the most part, I remember what the dreams are about. But there have been a few times that I don’t remember them,” I tell Cal.

“Why didn’t you tell us?” Mark asks, hurt being heard in his voice.

    Chapter143 Amalie

“The first time it happened, I thought it was just a dream. The next time it happened, something felt like it was telling me to keep her a secret, that you would not understand,” I sigh. “I now know that it some sort of spell cast by her.”

“What happened in thest dream?” Kira asks, saving me from facing the disappointment from my mates.

“I realized that it was her. That she was the witch who has been hunting me. I tried to escape, but since she controls that realm…” I tell everyone.

“How did you escape?” Cal demands.

“I’m not sure. I remember pounding on where the door used to be, begging for one of you to help. Then I woke up, hearing how you and Mark are simr,” I tell Cal.

“How did you hear my thoughts?” Cal asks gruffly. He’s trying to maintain his emotional distance from me, and it hurts. But I understand, I kept Francesca from them. They could have found out more if I had told them all sooner.

“I don’t know,” I answer. “They were just bouncing around in my head when I woke up.” I stumble as I turn in my pacing. Mark and Cal both steady me. They maybe mad at me, but they still care.

“How do we keep Ama from being dragged back to that sleep realm if she fails asleep?” Mark asks as he lets me go. He’s mad, but not mad enough to call me by Amalie.

“I don’t know, that is witch territory,” Kira answers.

“Beren? Do you have any ideas?‘ I ask my quiet wolf. She does not answer me. ‘What, are you mad at me now too?‘ I snap. I don’t mean to snap, just everything is stressing me out. ‘Beren, this is not funny,‘ I try again.

“Beren won’t answer and I can’t feel her,” I say, panic over taking my voice.

    “What?” Cal demands,

Lwipe the tears from my eyes and say, “I can’t feel Beren, it’s like she’s not even there.” I sway on my feet before I am able to say anything else.

Cal steadies me again as Mark’s eyes ze over. I can’t concentrate enough to hijack his mind link. A few secondster, Uncle Willes inside the room. He takes out a syringe and grabs my arm. “This will help you stay awake,” he tells me as he pushes the plunger.

“What was that?” I ask, starting to feel it’s effects.

“A cocktail of different things. It should help you stay awake, but with magic involved, who knows,” he tells me.

I nod my head in understanding. I feel like I have drunk to much coffee again, but at the same time, I feel like I am about to fall asleep. I fight off a yawn. “I don’t think that it’s working,” I sigh as my eyelids droop.

“Hey, stay awake,” Cal orders me, concern dripping from his tone.

“I’m trying,” I say as my legs buckle,

Cal tilts my head to the side, and his teeth dig into my mate mark from him. Adrenaline shoots through me. My eyes shoot wide open, and I gasp. But the adrenaline is fading quickly. I am falling asleep all too soon.
