Guard 142

    Chapter 142 Calyx

“Amalie?” I ask as the mate bond bes muted. I had been carrying Ama back home when it feels like she has been cut off from us again. Goddess, it feels like it has been over thest seven years. We can’t feel her. If she hadn’t been breathing in my arms, Zviad and I would have gone on a rampage to find her.

“What the hell?” Mark hisses in anger and looks at my arms to make sure that Ama is still here.

“I don’t know,” I growl out as I tighten my hold on our mate. ‘Ama?‘ I ask her, fear leaking through

the mind link as I try to contact our mate.

Nothing, the bond is still muted and she is not responding. I stop mid stride and set her on the ground. “Amalie?” I say as I shake her, trying to wake her

up.

Her rolls to the side, but she does not wake. Fear overtakes me as I check her pulse

    to

    make sure

she is still alive. I have never felt fear like I do right now.

“Uncle, something is wrong with Amalie!‘ I growl through the mind link to Uncle William.

His own fearful responsees back in seconds, ‘What’s wrong?”

‘She fell asleep after training and now she won’t wake up. Our mate bond is barely there anymore,‘ I tell him.

    “Hospital, now,‘ he orders me.

I pull Amalie back into my arms and I take off sprinting towards the hospital. Her shallow breaths tickle my neck, but I do not draw anyfort from it. As I run, it feels like the bond is fading.

‘Please, if you can hear me and if Amalie means anything to you, please let her wake up,‘ beg the moon goddess.

“What the hell is going on?” Markus demands as he runs next to me.

“I don’t know,” I growl in frustration. The hospitales into view rather quickly.

Markus pulls ahead and opens the doors for us. I race past him.

“Down that hall and third door on the right,” Gretchen shouts at me as she points to the left hall.

I nod my head and follow her instructions. Markus is right on my heels. He passes me again and gets to the indicated door first. He opens it for me and race in. I set Amalie on the hospital bed.

Her head lulls to the left side. She is looking pale, but my mate mark on her neck is ming red.

I reach out a tentative hand to touch my mark. As I softly press my finger against, I rear my hand back as if I had been burnt. It felt like she had a fire burning on her neck.

“What?” Markus demands as he looks at me and then at Amalie. He gently turns her head. Markus examines his own mate mark. It’s just as enmed as my own. My younger twin reaches out a hand to touch his mark. He lets out a hiss but does not yank his hand away from Amalie’s neck. He presses his whole hand to her neck.

Uncle William storms into the room. “What happened?” he demands as he looks from one person to the next.

“Like I told you, Amalie fell asleep after she spent the morning training. As I was carrying her home, the bond became muted. I haven’t been able to wake her up,” I tell him.

“No mind link either?” Uncle William asks as he takes his stethoscope to check her heartbeat.

“No, we can’t reach her,” Markus says, fear and worry in his voice.

“She eat or drink anything?” he asks us as he turns Amalie’s head. He cracks open her eyelid and examines her pupil.

“She drank the water I prepared for her this morning,” I tell him.

She squeaks out, “Yes Dr. Reed.” Ann is scurry from the room to grab what she needed to draw blood.

“What are you thinking?” I ask, trying not to growl.

“I won’t know for sure. I don’t think that she was poisoned. She ate everything that someone in our family prepared,” Uncle William sighs in defeat.

“But we’re dealing with witches,” Markus sighs as he holds Amalie’s hand.

Zviad is growling in my head. He wants me to shift

James, get Kira to the hospital, now,‘ I order through the mind link.

“What? What’s wrong?‘ he asks, he can hear my anger through the mind link.

‘We’re on our way,‘ James says he then breaks the mind link.

I sit beside Amalie in the chair that the hospital provided. “Why does she keep ending up in here?” I growl in frustration.

“If she is the goddess’s chosen white wolf, why in the hell does Ama keep getting hurt and tortured?” Markus growls in anger. His mask of calm and happy- go–lucky is slipping. He is showing his anger, something that he does not want others to know about.

“You can be mad,” I whisper to Markus as he tries to rein in his

    anger.

“I’m pissed!” Markus yells at me. He stops himself from saying anything else. He takes a deep breath to calm himself down. Markus tosses a look at Uncle William.

Our uncle gets the hint and leaves the room. Uncle William shuts the door behind him.

“You don’t have to be the happy twin when it’s just me,” I tell him.

I’m sick and tired of us living up to the stereotype or a good twin and bad twin. We both can be ruthless. We are both angry a lot of the time. We both like to inflict pain on those that have wronged us.

“You are both big softies for me,” a tired voice says.
