Guard 103

    Chapter 103 Calyx

“Love, it’s time to wake up,” I says as I nudge Ama’s shoulder.

“Sleep,” she mumbles as she turns over. Ama then buries her head into the pillow. She looks adorable trying to block me out.

“Ama, you wanted to learn how to train,” Mark smirks at me as he whispers into her ear.

“I’m awake,” Ama says as she sits up immediately, now wide awake.

“Good, go put on shorts and a t–shirt,” I order as I get up. I make my way to my room. I change my clothes, thinking about what I am going to do to start Ama’s training. I shake my head. Zviad and I will have to go back to the basics to see what Ama remembers. Then we are going to start from scratch in training Beren.

A few minutester, I exit my room and walk back towards Ama’s room.

“What is going to happen with Rose while we train?” Ama asks Mark as I enter her room.

“Uncle Will and Uncle Mike are going to watch her until you are done,” he tells her.

“Where are you going to be?” she asks as she looks between Mark and I.

“I have to go to the pack house for an hour and then go to the hospital. James has not left his mate.

I am hoping to talk with him before we have to talk with the rogue,” he tells her.

    “Kira,” Ama says.

    “Right, Kira,” Mark amends.

We had talked about what we wanted to do with Kira for a few hoursst night after Ama had fallen asleep. We figured that Kira and James would respond better to just one of us rathe than both. We would get better answers if she was not intimidated by both of us.

“Okay love,” I say as I draw Ama’s attention towards me. I turn and leave her room. I can hear her following me. I grab the bottles of water that I had also prepared the night before. I then lead the way out the back door.

“Where are we going?” Ama asks as she follows me.

“We are jogging to the high school for the training grounds,” I tell her as I take off running.

Ama starts after me. I want to chuckle at how adorable she is. Within a block, she is huffing and puffing. It’s only a few blocks to the high school. But I can’tugh. Ama is out of shape. Her wolf only has the stamina they showed the other day, because of how strong she is. Both need training so

that way they can outrun someone until they learn how to properly defend themselves.

I change our route. We are no longer going to do self defense training like I had nned. No today, we are going to work on fogging. We will walk when Ama needs to regain her breath and then we will keep pushing.

“… thought… we… were… going… to the… high school?” Ama pants as she tries to keep pace with

me.

“We were,” I tell her. “But I decided that we are going to start differently. I want to work on stamina in running today.” I then slow to a fast walk. I can see the relief in Ama’s eyes as we slow down. She has to speed walk to keep up with me, but she is able to get her breathing under control.

“For the next few days, we are going to focus on building your stamina. Training to defend yourself will take months. But learning to run and out pace your enemy is easier to start,” I tell her. “Your body and Beren’s is designed to run. We just need to build that back after theck of training.”

“I’m not going to run every time we are under attack,” she huffs in irritation at me.

I pick up my pace and Ama matches it. “We will get to you defending yourself and then fighting for the pack. But we have seven years of training to make up for,” I say. “We need to get youfortable moving in both forms and then learning to make yourself faster.”

“Jogging is going to make me faster?” she asks.

“No,” I chuckle. “Jogging to go to push you today to work on your stamina.”

“How long… will we be… jogging for?” Ama asks as she is starting to take shallow breaths.

    “Breathe deeply,” I tell her.

She nods her head as she tries to follow my instructions.

“We are going to jog for about two hours and then go from there,” I tell her.

“Two hours? Are you… trying to kill… me?” Ama moans in despair as she.

“No, but you need to work on running,” I chuckle as I watch Ama slow slightly. “Keep up love.”

“You… are… going to… kill me,” she huffs, but speeds up.

“No, I love you and want you to be safe,” I tell her. “There maye a time when you have to run. Whether it be to get away from a rogue or, when you learn to fight, you are tracking down a rogue.” I slow down again, letting Amá catch her breath.

“Did you start this way?” Ama asks as she puts her hands on her head.

I nod in approval of her hands. She needs to keep her rib cage open so she can breathe properly. “No, Mark and I started out fighting first,” I tell her. “We prioritized learning to fight and defend ourselves. This built up our stamina and strength.”

    “Why can’t I…

    the same… way?” Ama asks,

“If you are being targeted, we do not have time to work on building strength and stamina that way. It will take years for you to be a top warrior, and I know you are going to put your all into bing the best. But we have to work on what we can do the most first,” I tell her.

“Meaning running,” she sighs in defent.

“This evening though, we will work on a few self defense moves,” I tell her, hoping to lift her spirits.
