Chapter 97 Amalie
How can one word change everything? How can it destroy everything someone knew in a second. Everything you knew or thought you knew, upended.
Calyx and Markus had growled the entire way to hospital as Danny, or Daniel as he had introduced himself, and James had carried Kira between them. Both of my mates had refused to shift back, preferring to allow Zviad and Aziz, walk me to the hospital. Poor Nick, and Lowell by extension, had followed behind us awkwardly, not knowing if he should stay in wolf form or shift back.

I had assured my mates that I was fine. The dizziness was fading as Beren was finally able to emerge. She was working hard to heal me. I tried to tell them that I did not need the hospital and to let other pack members go. But an intense growl from Zviad and Aziz had me sighing and checking in at the hospital front desk.
I sigh again as I sit on the hospital bed, waiting for either Uncle Will or Mark toe back. Cal stands in the corner, refusing to meet my gaze. I will have to unpack thatter, right now I have enough issues.
When the door opens, I dete a little at the sight of Uncle Will. I had been hoping for Rose and
Mark.
“Well, I was hoping for a little more joy as I </be to tell you that you have no concussion or wolfsbane still in your system,” Uncle Will smiles at me, trying to brighten my day.
“No, that’s good,” I reassure him. “I was hoping for Mark and Rose.”
“Ah,” Uncle Will says simply. “Well, you are good to go.”
“Thank you. Will we see you at hometer?” I ask Uncle Will as I go to get off the bed.
“We’re not going back there,” Cal growls as he finally looks at me.
I turn sharply to look at my mate. “What do you mean by that? That is home?” I demand.
“You were kidnapped from there,” he growls back.
“So?” I reply in a challenge. “I could have been grabbed from anywhere.”
“You will be staying at the pack, house with Mark and I,” he orders, his words turning into an Alpha
order.
“Excuse me? Since when did our mate bond turn into a dictatorship?” I growl. Beren is growing agitated at the twins. She is upset that they are making decisions for us.

“Since we can’t trust anyone to protect you!” Cal shouts at me.
“What?” I ask, a little brokenly and taken aback.
“Uncle Mike was supposed to stay with you until Sam arrived. He left and Sam got sidetracked. You then got kidnapped,” Cal growls in heavy pants.
“That’s not fair, and you know it,” I say hotly.
“What’s not fair is that Mark and I almost lost our mate today,” he growls, desperation in his voice.
‘He’s scared,‘ Beren whispers, ‘more than us just being taken. He ignored the bond when we were scared. We got hurt, again.‘
I know I shouldn’t say anything. Saying something will cause issues, but I will be damned if the twins can just project their guilt onto others. Beren takes slight control as I go to say something. I instead choke as we fight for control of my mouth.
“Ama?” Uncle Will says he stands in front of me and goes to look to see if he missed something.
Cal stands behind him, worry etched into every detail of his face.
“She is fine,” Beren says, using my mouth. “She was about say something that we will regret. I will say this for now, we will concede in going to stay at the pack house for the night. But we will talk about this further ande to an agreement.” Beren, still in control of my body, strides from the
room.
‘Can I have control now?‘ I demand. I do not like being a passenger in my own body. She walks us down a hallway. A destination seems to be in mind.
‘Depends, are you going to pick a fight with our mates or wait until we are all calm?‘ she challenges.
I have to concede that picking a fight at this moment might be tempting, but it will do us no good. My mates are upset about something they did, the fact that I had been kidnapped during an attack, and, I’m pretty sure, that James’s mate is a rogue. Why couldn’t we have a normal day? Was that too much to ask for.
Beren gives me control as we are waking down the hall. I spot James and his father standing outside
of a room.
“How is she?” I ask as I approach the father and son.
“Doc says that she will make a fully recovery and to wait a few days before I reject her,” James sighs, not meeting my gaze.
“You can’t reject her,” I say sharply.

“Ama, she was part of the group that just attacked us. Her brother kidnapped you. I can’t have her as a mate,” James tells me just as sharply.
“She tried to protect me though from Mathew,” I point out to try and win the rogue some favor.
“I still can’t have someone like her be my mate and the female Beta of this pack,” James sighs.
“Have you even talked with her?” I demand. “Talk with her first, please?”
