    The day before Sebi is nning to return for the weekend, I get a call from Councilman Johnathon. I get Shane and put the councilman on speakerphone.


    “Alphas, I wanted to let you know that the council haspleted their investigation into Alpha Kurt’s attack on your pack. Alpha Kurt indicated that he was paid to kill your father, but since he wasn’t looking to take over your pack, he attacked and left without killing him. He did state that it was Dorian who contacted him and Steven who paid him. No charges will be pressed against Alpha Kurt.”


    “Thank you for letting us know, councilman,” Shane says before we hang up.


    “Are you disappointed?” I ask him.


    “Yes. Well, yes and no. I guess he could have killed my father. If he had, we wouldn’t be here, would we?” he asks me.


    “No. He would have taken over your pack and either killed you and Enya or taken you to his pack and demoted you. Either way, you wouldn’t be nning to take over your father’s pack in just over a year.”


    “I guess in some ways, I should be thankful then.”


    “I wouldn’t say you should be thankful. But understanding someone’s motives is always important. He either needed or wanted the money. He didn’t do this for the notoriety or to increase the size of his pack. That’s information that you should tuck away and keep in case you ever need it again,” I say just as Braden knocks on the door.


    “Hey, Alpha. The gate patrols just contacted me. There’s someone here to see you. They’reing up now. They said they knew you from school?”


    I frown, I’m not expecting anyone.


    “Thanks, Braden,” I say, getting up and heading to the front of the packhouse.


    “Who is it, Christian?” Shane asks.


    “I have no idea,” I say.

    “What’s going on?” Enya asks.


    “One of Christian’s school buddies is here,” Shane tells her.


    “Which one?” she asks, following us outside.


    “I have no idea,” I say as I watch the car make its way to the packhouse.


    As soon as I recognize her, I grin and jog down the stairs. She parks and gets out of the car.


    “There’s my favorite Alpha!”


    “Talia! What are you doing here?” I ask, excited to see one of my best friends.


    She jumps into my arms, and I hug her tightly as she wraps her legs around me.


    “I’m here to see you, of course!”

    I feel Shane grab my wrist and I realize I was about to start growling. My wolf is snarling in my head. I thought I only felt the fur on her back going up, but when I look at Shane’s hand on my arm, I can see that it’s starting to sprout on my body as well.


    I take a deep breath, pulling the fur back in, as I hear Talia squeal in delight.


    She better unwrap her legs from around my man before I rip them off her body.


    “How did you even know I was here?” Christian asks her as she finally unhooks her fucking fantastic thighs from around his waist.


    “Are you fucking kidding me? Number one on the leaderboard? EVERYONE knows where you are, Christian. Not to mention all that bullshit about murdering an Alpha. You know how the packs gossip. And of course, everyone is saying the golden boy still has his shine,” she says, smacking him on the arm.
