Wife Back 155

    Megan instinctively swallowed.

Roy spoke up, “Don’t be afraid, we just called you here to ask a few questions. Your chairman is here too, I won’t do anything to you.”

As he spoke, Roy took out his police badge.

The moment he disyed it in front of Megan, both of them noticed her expression changed–from nervous to suddenly terrified.

    Megan involuntarily scooted backward.

    Chris called out.

    Francesca came in from outside.

“Please wait at the door for a moment and don’t let anyonee in.”

    “Okay.”

Thatpletely blocked Megan’s only way out.

Seeing she had no way to leave, Megan had no choice but to look at Roy.

    “I… I don’t know anything.”

    Roy chuckled.

His overly handsome face carried a trace of sternness.

“Ma’am, I haven’t even asked you anything yet, and you’re already saying you don’t know anything? Or…. did you already know what I was going to ask?”

    That…

When it came to interrogation skills, no one in the entire police station couldpare to Roy.

Megan grew even more flustered and could only look toward Chris.

“Dr. Green, there’s still a storeroom downstairs that hasn’t been checked yet. We’re supposed to take

inventory today, and we can’t leave until it’s done. I have a three–year–old at home. I really can’t work

    overtime.”

Chris ced his hands together on the table.

“I’ll have someone else handle your tasks. You won’t need to work overtime–as long as you cooperate, you can leave soon.”

Of course, that “leave” might mean leaving the hospital altogether.

Seeing Megan’s reaction, Roy knew he had found the right person.

Since that was the case, it was time to begin the questioning.

“Have you seen this person before?”

Roy pulled out a photo of Mandy and flipped it over to show Megan.

As expected, Megan’s eyes widened slightly after seeing it, but she still averted her gaze and said that she didn’t recognize her.

“Really? You’re sure you don’t know her?”

“I’m not a nurse. I don’t usually go into wards. The pharmacy is mostly staffed by hospital personnel. How would I recognize her?”

Roy immediately replied, “I only asked if you recognized her. I never said she was a patient. See? That

means you know everything, don’t you? Ma’am, do you realize you’re breaking thew?”

    “I–I really don’t know her.”

Roy said, “ording to hospital surveince, Mandy previously stayed in Room 316, right across from the nurse’s station. You work the night shift and often hang out at the nurse’s station watching TV with the others. The footage shows you walking past the door of Room 316 more than five times a day. Aren’t you supposed to be in the pharmacy?”

Moreover, there were lots of peopleing in and out of Mandy’s room, and the door was open most of

    the time.

Out of the five times Megan passed by, two or three times the door was open, and she had looked inside.

There was no way she hadn’t seen what Mandy looked like.

Megan said, “I stayed with the night shift group, but I wasn’t responsible for that patient.”

“I’m telling you now–this person has been kidnapped.”

    Megan took a deep breath.

Roy continued, “Based on the information I’ve received, you showed unusual attention toward the patient called Mandy in Room 316. You might be the only person who knows something. Failing to report it makes you an aplice. Ma’am, you still need to go home and take care of your three–year–old child. You don’t want to leave with me, do you?”

Children were always a mother’s soft spot.

Megan had looked tense all along, but when she heard mention of her child, her expression finally

    softened

Still, she held on and didn’t speak.

“I didn’t exactly interact with her. I just passed by the room. I paid a bit more attention because Room 316 often needed medication changes. I happened to be somewhat familiar with that,”

    Her answer was almost wless.
