Shattered 18

She washed up and went downstairs. Dinner was ready, and the servant brought out some soup, telling her it was what Wesley had wanted for her. The servant’s tone was dripping with envy, as if Prisci were the luckiest woman in the world.

Prisci sat down and ate in silence.

Wesley pulled a chair across from her and sat down, too.

He had changed into loungewear. Holding a fork with his slender fingers, he put a piece of fish onto her te.

    “Have some fish.”

Though his tone was as gentle as always, to her, it was a mere pretense.

She took a sip of the soup, not reaching for the fish.

Seeing this, Wesley frowned. Over the years, she had always been gentle. This was the first time she had acted so un- reasonably.

He didn’t like this side of her.

Perhaps he had been pampering her so much, and she got carried away. When would she stop this nonsense?

“Rest at home for a few days. No rush in going back to work,” he said.

Putting down the spoon, she looked over at him coldly. “No. Holiday Series is at a critical stage.”

Holiday Series had been a gship project for the Carlton Group over the past three years. So far, eight holiday- themed fragrances had beenunched, and they had received nothing but positive market feedback.

As the head of the R&D Department, Prisci had always been dedicated.

Though she was recovering, she still wanted to get back to work as soon as possible.

Besides, being in an entirely different environment might help her forget and move on more quickly.

Putting down the fork, Wesley said tly, “I’ve arranged for Larissa to be part of the R&D Department.”

Prisci turned pale at once as she sprang to her feet. “What?”

“When she was abroad, she studied under Ms. Bowen for three years. Now that she’s back, she can learn a lot from you.” Though his tone was calm, the implications were clear-he wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Catherine Bowen was an internationally renowned perfumer.

“No. You know I don’t like Larissa,” Prisci said straightforwardly. Then, thinking of something, she curved her

lips. “If she does well, I should step down and let her be the director, huh?”

“Prisci, could you stop targeting Larissa?” Wesley didn’t get it. Why did Prisci hate Larissa so much?

Larissa had been trying so hard to get closer to her, but she kept pushing Larissa away.

Prisci smiled, yet her eyes were devoid of any emotion. “If it weren’t for her, our paths would never have crossed.”

Larissa had run away from the wedding, leaving her to pay the price, which ruined her life.

Just as she had finally decided to fullymit to her marriage, Larissa came back and took Wesley’s heart right back.

Her three-year devotion ended up a joke.

Wesley frowned, his deepening voiceced with displeasure. “I told you already. Larissa and I are just friends. She’s juste back, and I want to give her a hand in establishing her career.

“Once she’s on the track, I’ll keep my distance from her.”

It was his promise to Prisci.

But she didn’t buy it at all. She bent her knuckles, tapped the table, and said seriously, “She wants to be part of the R&D Department? Not gonna happen.”

The Holiday Series was made by Prisci herself, bit by bit. They were like her own kids, and she’d never give them to someone else.

And that someone was the person she hated the most.

“I’m not asking you. I’m just telling you,” Wesley said, his eyes cold. “If you don’t wanna go, stay home and rx.”

With that, he turned and went upstairs.

Prisci stared at his back. The pain in her heart kept growing until she feltpletely empty inside.
