The trash can was clean, save for a few crumpled tissues lying at the bottom.

The jewelry box was untouched. Anneliese opened it, lifted out the jewelry, tossed the empty box aside, and strode quickly toward the exit.

    “Anneliese, wait!”

Zacharias‘ deep, firm voice rang out, and he immediately started after her.

Selina caught his arm. “Zach, you think the diamond might’ve fallen into the drain? I’ve looked everywhere. It’s gone. We need to get the staff.”

    Zacharias stopped.

She added softly, “Anne’s angry. If the wedding diamond really is lost, she’ll be devastated.”

Anneliese had said the diamond wasn’t theirs, and he wanted to find it fast to understand what had happened.

He pressed his thumb to his forehead and pulled out his phone, calling Jackie to bring the staff.

Anneliese stormed toward the auction hall. She was just about to go back inside when she bumped into Jonathan walking out.

His eyes immediately scanned her. The look on her face seemed off.

His gaze settled on her right hand.

She clutched the ne, rings, and bracelet, and a red mark circled her wrist.

    His expression darkened. “What happened?”

The concern in his voice stirred an unexpected wave of frustration and helplessness in her chest.

She lifted her hand weakly. “The jewelry box got dirty.”

Jonathan stepped closer. He noticed her hair was loose, a stray strand falling across her forehead, making her look delicate and disheveled.

He reached out and gently tucked the strand behind her ear. His voice was low and calm.

“It’s fine. I’ll hold these for you and get a new box.”

Anneliese hadn’t expected him to adjust her hair.

His touch carried no intimacy. There was only careful, considerate attention.

His fingers didn’t brush her skin; they simply guided the stray hair behind her ear and withdrew.

It was a gentle and very polite gesture. He was trying to console her.

As he pulled back, his fingers brushed against her pearl earring.

The round pearl swayed, lightly brushing her delicate neck with a cool, tickling touch.

Her irritation, anger, and frustration softened instantly, though the gentle touch made her heart skip.

    She lowered her gaze.

    “Thank you.”

Jonathan’s eyes lingered on the swinging earring. Her earlobe flushed faintly.

He opened hisrge palm toward her. “Give it to me.”

Anneliese realized she had been gripping the jewelry tightly, her palm pressed painfully against the sharp tinum edges.

She nodded and released it, letting the ruby set fall into his broad hand.

“Should we head home now? Together.”

She had lost interest and didn’t want to speak. Jonathan didn’t push. He lowered his palm slightly and asked again in a gentle tone.

His warm, low voice carried aforting weight that was hard to refuse.

The words could have sounded suggestive, but the situation made them urate.

    They were going home together.

Suppressing the odd flutter in her chest, Anneliese nodded. “Okay.”

Jonathan led the way toward the private exit.

She followed quietly. His gaze flicked to her wrist.

The red mark was vivid, a sharp reminder of the chaos she must’ve gone through.

A shadow of concern crossed his face. He realized he should have been more

    careful.

At the very least, he should’ve asked for staff to apany her.

Selina and Zacharias had searched everywhere for the missing pink diamond without luck.

Selina, exhausted from pretending, muttered, “I wonder why the staff hasn’t arrived yet.

She stepped out and scanned the hallway.

At the far end, she saw Anneliese walking beside a tall, upright man.

He subtly adjusted his pace for her high heels.

He had one hand in his pocket, moving with azy, confident stride like a lion

He asionally tilted his head, listening to Anneliese as she spoke to him.

The dim light at the corridor’s end highlighted how close they walked together. Their differing heights and physiques made them look strikinglypatible.

Selina quickly snapped a photo. By the time she lowered her phone, they had disappeared around the corner.
