Our family should not get involved with the Cater family.” The Cater family was Madeline’s family, and Cater had been herst name before she married into the Windsor family. “I’d rather maintain the rtionship that I’ve already fostered with Duke.”
“I don’t need Felix to rescue me,” Chloe snapped and crossed her arms, wincing from her still healing injuries. “I don’t need anyone except for my fiancé.” She looked to her mother. “Where’s my phone? I want to call him. He’s a smart and capable man. He will figure out a way to help me out of this mess.”
Madeline sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose. “Honey, I don’t think Ethan will be able toe right now. Like I said, he’s busy-”
“Too busy to be with his future wife while she’s lying in a hospital bed in trouble?” Chloe demanded. “I don’t think so. Ethan loves me. He

“He won’te for you when you’re being suspected of murder,” Felix said with hatred in his voice. “I heard that he had been the one to call the cops on you in the first ce. If you are convicted of murder then I bet he will cancel the wedding in a heartbeat.”
Chloe’s face filled with rage and her eyes lit with a deranged spark. Felix actually took a step back from how unhinged his sister looked at that moment.
“Shut up!” Chloe yelled. Her heart rate machine was beeping since her pulse had spiked so high in such a short amount of time. Her face turned red, and she pointed at her brother with one of her sharp red nails. “You have no idea what you’re talking about! He loves me, and he’s going to marry me no matter what!”
Madeline rushed to her daughter and gently stroked her hair away from her sweating forehead. “Honey, your brother is right. Ethan was the one who called the cops on us. He isn’t by your side. He won’t protect you no matter what. Why don’t you save yourself the humiliation and break off the engagement yourself? I can even help you raise the baby.”
Chloe blushed, and her brother/ scoffed. “Do you want to tell her the truth, or should I?” He paused, and when his sister did nothing but stare at him, he continued. “I bribed the doctor to reveal that you’re not actually pregnant. I knew you were lying about that!”
Madeline’s hand fell away from Chloe’s hair. Her face became frozen as she stared down at her daughter with shock. “Chloe…is this true?” she asked in a shaking voice.
Chloe just turned away from her mom, not answering her question.
