Chapter 1845

    Chapter 1845:

Dn had expected to enjoy watching her blush. Instead, surprise jolted through him when one of her hands slipped to his buttons while the other drifted lower. He caught her wrist immediately, releasing a slow, unsteady breath.

“Behave,” he said, holding her firmly in ce as he worked to steady his breathing.

He felt her press against him and drew in a sharp breath. His hands moved to her hips, anchoring her.

“Don’t,” he warned, the word clipped, every line of his face taut with the effort of holding himself together.

“Chrissie — if you keep that up, I won’t be able to stop myself,” Dn breathed, meeting her impish gaze with perfect rity. He knew exactly what she was doing. But what choice did he have? She was the woman he loved beyond reason, and when it came to her, his restraint had always had its limits.

Christina let her yful torment drop and fell quiet, her bright, ughing eyes resting steadily on him.

Dn, who had been barely holding himself together, felt thest of his restraint threaten to give way beneath the weight of her gaze. He lifted her from hisp and settled her into the seat beside him, keeping his eyes elsewhere while he searched for some safe topic to steady himself.

“Chrissie, I swear I didn’t let Vickie anywhere near me,” Dn said earnestly, folding her fingers into his.

“I know. I trust you,” Christina answered without hesitation.

“For real?” he pressed, a trace of tension still lingering in his voice.

He understood that any crack between them had to be mended at once, before it could deepen into something thatsted. If even a shadow of doubt remained in her heart, he would spare no effort to prove his faithfulness and ease herpletely — to make certain she never felt pain because of him.

“For real.” Christinaughed softly. “Why on earth would I lie about that?”

“I just don’t want you turning it over in your head. I can’t bear the thought of any confusioning between us,” he murmured.

Christina tilted her head. “I understand. Don’t worry — I won’t spiral. I believe in you.”

She knew how strongly Dn recoiled from unwanted contact. If Vickie had truly crossed a line, she was certain the matter would not have ended with merely cutting ties. Once Dn saw that her faith in him was genuine, the tension finally left his shoulders.

He resolved, quietly and firmly, that no one would ever be permitted to put so much as a hairline fracture in what they shared.

The car rolled to a stop at Cloudcrest Heights.

Dn stepped out first and pulled her door open, raising his palm above her head so she wouldn’t catch the frame.

    “Are you hungry?” he asked.

Christina pressed a hand to her stomach and offered a slightly sheepish smile. “Now that you mention it — yes, a little.”

“What are you craving? I’ll see what we have,” Dn said.

“Nothing heavy. Maybe just a bowl of porridge,” she suggested.

“Alright. Go shower and rest. I’lle get you when it’s ready,” Dn said, running his fingers lightly through her hair.
